i posted this on debtfree forum other night but thought might be better here ..
today recd my new a&l c/card and inside envelope is lovely boklet called credit card agreement regulated by consumer credit act 1974- terms & conditions- never seen this before..
Letter tells me to call and activate card so they know i recd it safely, but do i smell a rate here, are they getting me to phone and then by doing this is i agreet to cca terms, can u see where i am coming from . This is funny cos i have just missed a payment but now paid and they have reduced my credit limit which not bothererd about - so why new card etc.
What do u regulars think
thanks

This is quite standard. In some cases you are put through an automated system which will activate your card. In other cases it goes on to a rep who will try to sell you PPI or card protection plan or such like....If this happens just say "no thankyou" to all offers (unless ofcourse you want it) and the card is ready to be used...

thanks for coming back - but I dont think i explained myself .... in the past I have activated cards etc by phoning but my point is I have never received a booklet called Credit Card Agreement Regulations....... in with my credit cards. I am just wondering why ? do they think my agreement with them is not enforceable and therefore by validiating the card this time and as CCRegs book in with card I am agreeing to this ?0

You will always receive a credit card agreement booklet/foldout/or something detailing all the fine print of the credit card agreement. I you do not receive one, I would say something is wrong. If you can clarify in what way is the new cca agreement different from the one you had previously received. Usually if there are changes then, these are called out on the new version.0 -
Every card I have ever had (which now number into 3 figures) has always come with a copy of the CC agreement, either as a separate booklet or printed on the back of the letter the card is attached to. Completely standard practice.
Why is it that everyone on these forums is so paranoid that banks are trying to do something underhand to them?0 -
Thanks for your replies - not being paranoid just that this is different to what I have seen before - perhaps its just the format that new.
It an A5 size booklet with my name at the top and my credit card number underneath, it then lists the contents starting from Key Financial Information to How we use your information, Then inside the envelope is my credit card and thats attached to the usual 4 page A4 paper , listing all th usual garbage and telling me how to get the most from my card .
Perhaps the format has just changed ??
