Internet links being hijacked

Options
Over the last kew days whilst doing lots of researching around a new mortgage /insurance/ PPI etc I have increasingly noticed that when I am clicking on a URL after a search in Google, I am being re-directed to another page entirely. This is happening even when I click a link for established companies. The pages I am re-directed to are typically either other search portals, completely different websites (but related to the search I was doing) or to a domain name register page. I am resorting to typing in long URLs reading from the results in Google or using the cached pages when they are available.
Our Anti-virus is up to date and I haven't downloaded anything untoward to my knowledge, however we do connect using wireless LAN in the house which at the moment is unsecured :o
What have I picked up that is doing this and how can I make it stop!

Many thanks in advance
:j
