Over the last kew days whilst doing lots of researching around a new mortgage /insurance/ PPI etc I have increasingly noticed that when I am clicking on a URL after a search in Google, I am being re-directed to another page entirely. This is happening even when I click a link for established companies. The pages I am re-directed to are typically either other search portals, completely different websites (but related to the search I was doing) or to a domain name register page. I am resorting to typing in long URLs reading from the results in Google or using the cached pages when they are available.
Our Anti-virus is up to date and I haven't downloaded anything untoward to my knowledge, however we do connect using wireless LAN in the house which at the moment is unsecured
What have I picked up that is doing this and how can I make it stop!
Many thanks in advance

i had a similar problem, CWshredder done the job! run that first, if problem is still not solved, get spybotS&D
1) download, update & run CWshredder: http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/online-tools/cwshredder.exe
2) download, update & run SpybotS&D: http://fileforum.betanews.com/sendfile/1043809773/1/spybotsd14.exe

Thanks for the reply to my post. I ran both of them, the second one taking a couple of hours. It didn't appear to work initially but after also deleting all cookies and temp files it seems to have done the trick
Thanks for your help!

you could also try this to help protect you in future..
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
and https://www.ccleaner.com to tidy up your pc.
and don't forget to secure your wireless network.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

It's now happening with every url I click on and not just random anymore. I've run SpyBot twice which found some dodgy files and has supposed to have got rid of them. Also downloaded and ran Windows Defender but that claimed not to find any malicious files.
Any ideas on what to do next anyone?
Thanks in advance:j0 -
Run the scans on this link. Run all the scans they offer:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
If anything malicious is found post back so that you can have some help.
You say that Spybot found some dodgy files. If you can post here what they where that might help people identify what the problem is. Sometimes a problem can be difficult and persistent to remove. Any info helps!0 -

sounds like you have a spyware infection that can only be removed in "safe mode"Ex forum ambassador

I'd vote for the TrendMicro stuff as it has removed stuff from me that other spyware programs couldn't.
I tend to use their spyware scanner http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/0 -
I did try to follow the four steps in the sticky at the top of the forum but couldn't download the adware software and ccleaner got to about 98% of installation and hung. I ran the ewido quick scan which found 22 infected files (although it had problems cleaning about half of them) but this didn't solve the problem although I didn't do in safe mode.
Just trying trend micro now...fingers crossed:j0 -
you need to be in safe mode or it will not clean properly
get someone to burn the software to Cd for youEx forum ambassador
