Can anyone advise how to word the email? I'm useless at that kind of thing
I think they've got a bl**dy cheek - even if you were doing them for the free gifts. I quite often try them when they have a free gift - even paying at a reduced rate they are getting something. If the mag is good enough and lets face most aren't I may continue with it. However, I'm not going to pay full price if I can get it on offer again. i don't take out subs for mag I know I won't like to get a gift but if people do so what. The publishers have had it cushy for years - knowing full well that the majority of people subscribe and then forget to cancel and they continue to rake in money every month - and now thanks to this site some people are biting back. they've reduced the number of gifts on many sub offers. If they don't want people to take advantage of these gifts they shouldn't give them and then see how many continue to subscribe. See if you can find out who runs the publisher from the public records and forward the e-mail on to them - this is the oublic face if the company. Also, I would suggest that abusive, threatening e-mails aren't likely to win them any more customers - especially as you have now shared this outrageous e-mail with many other potential customers. good luck0 -
Hi there, it says the closing date for the above offer was 28th Feb, could this be a misprint?:A OFFICIAL Boots Tart :A and member of the PAH! club :rotfl:

Got this in today - am really pleased with it. :j :j :j
They have substituted some of the products but have said that the RRP is now £31.75 compared to advertised £27.65. Not sure what was in the original offer though but think the gift set is great.
Many thanks to OP  :beer:0 -
The emails are from national magazines and the lady who sent them works in the Data Entry department.
I had a much worse version that accused me of misuse, theft and fraud!!!
They even threatened police action if i continue subscribing.

grrrr marie claire!
I subscribed when they had the offer on for kenneth cole perfume, went through the actual marie claire website where the offer was displayed loud and proud!
still haven't recieved anything so emailed about a week ago, they said had run out, more was being ordered and would be dispatched shortly (yes, that old chestnut) me being helpful emailed back to say thanks for chasing it up, if it is any use I woulf consider a substitute gift (although I'd far rather have the perfume, initially I thought it would be a nice extra for my mums birthday but thats next week so no chance), then got an email saying that actally I'd subscribed to l'oreal products instead...
I emailed back and said I certainly didn't because I ordered for the perfume especially, through the actual perfume offer on the official website and that there is no way I'd have subscribed to l'oreal products as I don't buy them for ethical reasons anyway!
Just got another email basically asking me to prove I didn't subscribe to l'oreal stuff! How should I prove this when they did not send a confirmation email and no mention of any ift on the letter I got anyway?
should I contact the magazine and ask them to confirm whent he kenneth cole offer was running form their website, and / or mention misleading advertising to the publishers?0 -

I had this problem also with Marie Claire. They told me that I had subscribed to L'oreal and not to the Kenneth Cole promotion. I queried this and sent them the sceen print of the subscription and the Kenneth Cole perfume set clearly displayed. I then received an email back apologising and I got the gift a week later.
I find this quite suspicious that they are using the same line on you that they did with me. Perhaps the Kenneth Cole gift set is worth a lot more than the L'Oreal one and they are just trying to fob you off.
I subscribed on the 2nd March and I believe the L'oreal gift was from the month before. Check the date that you subscribed and tell them that your friend (me) subscribed on the same day(?) and that she got the gift set.
Hope this helps0 -
thanks for that JB2006, thats really helpful! I think I subscribed on the 17th march, I didn't get a very detailed subscribtion email form them like I do from most publishers but I do have a letter, which helpfully does not mention any gifts at all. I've just send them a polite but strong email and mentioned "my friend"
thansk for your advise xx

I read your post with considerable sympathy.
First I would ask this lady to set out which company she is from and to clarify which offers she is referring to.
Then point out that you have 14 other subscriptions at the moment and that none of them had any free gifts with them, if you have the subscription details to hand, fine, otherwise yo can let her check this out for herself. Point out that as such you are a valuable customer and it would be in her employer's interests to desist from sending you threatening emails, particularly when they have no legal remedy. You are perfectly entitled to cancel your direct debits. I would also refer her to the direct debit guarantee which states that you are entitled to cancel at any time.
I hope that the above assists you, but if you would like me to draft something for you, please feel free to pm me ( have posted here in case this can help anyone else) - my day to day job involves writing snotty letters to people - it is now second nature:rolleyes:
My personal feeling is that some people do abuse these offers, which means then that they get withdrawn/ numbers are limited, which ruins the fun of genuine subscribers, but they are however within their legal rights to do this.
The WHOLE POINT of these try 3 issues for £1 promotions is surely to let you try the magazine and see if you like it, most of these offers state that there is no obligation to continue beyond the 1st 3 issues either.
I would also add, don't let them upset you, I don't know how their systems work, but I imagine it is automated and they haven't even considered the numer of other subscriptions..
Legally there is nothing they can do if you have not breached the terms of the contract also.
Was going to click thanks but seems the Thanks button has gone walkabouts again! :rolleyes:2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,0 -
