I got a quote to replace some guttering soffitts and facias which I accepted after salesman came round to look and put down a small deposit on signing contract. The company have now turned round after sending a surveyor some 5 weeks later saying that they will need scaffolding to span conservatory and its £200 more before they will do it. The salesman saw location and roughly measured up, On the contract it does not specify replace items as I asked to be quoted for. The salesman has now left and company say he only quoted for ones that are attached to current boards etc. How do I stand legally can I cancel and have money returned or are they obliged the carry out work as I specified although only vebally did I say replacement ones not stick ons. All advice appreciated

Options.
1) Cancel and lose your small deposit. A survey should have covered all extras.
2) Demand they do the work for the contracted price and cover over existing wood. (There is a long debate about taking off supporting timber if it is sound).
This may cause shoddy work so ot the best option.
3) get another company in to quote and tell them the story, and offer them the job for the price on the contract , less the deposit.
Times are hard, and I would certainly look at the job under these circumstances.
I took an order yesterday (for a different product/service), under the same circumstances. The original company did not come back since April stating that they could not do the job for the price quoted. I did !0 -

The wood on my 60s semi has lasted 40+ years, and despite being old, it is sound, so I would cover it to ensure that the PVCu has a firm support/ Most PVCu will last about 20 years before losing the shine and becoming brittle due to UV deterioration. On a south facing wall, PVCu will last less time and has a tendency to warp under high temps in the summer.
Though many advocate stripping old wood, I still say there is good reason to cover sound wood and only remove rotting sections. OR have new wood fitted, now theres an idea, !!!!!!!!!0
