trying to decide on a holiday help!

hi all, please help with some holiday destination ideas!!

It's the first time we are taking our 5 yr old daughter and i'm really stumped on where to go:confused:

previous holidays we've enjoyed are sri lanka and cuba, hated zante.

I'm really stuck on where to take her! It's for a week in september, somewhere warm and not too commercialised.

oh, and cheap!:D
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote seems to be rated highly by many people on here.

What was it that you hated about Zante?

Minorca seems to be a good family place, my sister took her 2 small kids (2 & 6 at the time) and they loved it.

    Budget?

zante just didn't have any character and not a lot to do.
Budget is about a thousand for 2 adults 1 child.
oh is not keen on spain and hates massive complexes but these seem to be the ones that have stuff for the kiddies!

I think it may be a good idea to decide if your OH will put up with Spain.
I guess when you have kids, holidays that adults prefer tend to take a back seat. ;)
It does have the advantages of decent beaches and short flight times.

Thomas Cook seem to have lots of holidays in Majorca/Minorca within your budget - obviously depending on when in September and which airport.

What about Italy? You can book a week self catering in September in an apartment with or without a pool for your budget. You would need to factor in car hire and flights but it can be done for one thousand pounds.
There are some bargains around this year.

Last year we went to the Bella Italiaon Lake Garda in Italy. Loads for the children to do, but good for adults too (we went without kids). Not too far to fly - I would recommend using the campsite's own accommodation (apartments and bungalows), but if you prefer all the major companies such as Canvas and Eurocamp go there. The site's huge, but only a short walk from the pretty town, and it's a bus ride to Verona or a train ride to Venice.
