Help needed ref activity on closed credit card

I closed a business credit card issued by A&L/MNBA (in writing) over 6 months ago. At the bank's request I also contacted those with whom I knew I had direct debits & stopped them. But the card was several years old and I don't know who has had the details in the past. Recently a payment in respect of an annual subscription was put through by the bank. It wasn't a direct debit. A&L say it's my responsibility and I have to pay because it's an automated payment. Potentially this could go on forever......which seems crazy. Can anyone give me some guidance or point me in the right direction? This is a nightmare. Thanks.

It's not a direct debit, but a continuous payment authority (CPA). This sticky will be of interest...

You need to get your thinking cap on and try and remember who you have given the authority to debit your card account to, because whoever presents a payment request will be paid by MBNA.

Check over your statements for likely 'subscription' type transactions.

If you've not got your statements (you should have though with it being a business account?) you'll have to send MBNA a subject access request under the DPA and they'll probably respond by sending you statements (although they don't have to...they can send the information in any format they choose).
