Do you not get receipts? I always claim from Royal Mail for lost stuff and they always pay up. If you really want to sell overseas but worry about it being "lost" then the best thing to do is send it by international signed for or Air Sure only about £4 extra or by courier. If the person really really wants it then they will pay the extra. I have only had a few items go missing but then most my overseas customers are regular customers who would only say something is lost if it genuinely was

As some regulars have pointed out on another thread, RM is tightening the refund procedures and T & C always changing in the favour of RM.

And some have receipts but what about some items that are over 1 or more years old, surely not everyone will keep 'every' single receipt/paperwork!

You would expect the buyer to let the seller know an item was lost long before 12 months !

It makes sense to keep the receipt until the last date for a Paypal claim has passed (can't remember how long that is - 60 days ?).

If one sends expensive stuff overseas and doesn't keep a receipt, then perhaps exporting is not the right career.

What I meant was, you buy a item at eg at Next, then after a year or more, decide you no longer want this Next item so sell it. Keeping every single receipt would mean lots of paperwork. And, not everyone keeps receipts say for all items bought from 5+ years ago!!!

Why do you think that you need to keep every receip?. You only need to keep RM receipts if you need to claim. I think your trying to overcomplicate it. If you wish to sell abroad just do what you do in the UK. Send the item by appropriate postage method keep that postal receipt if you need to claim.. I think your getting confused between postage receipts and receipts for the item. Normally for a Royal Mail claim you just show them proof of the ebay price it sold for. (well thats what I had to do)

Interesting few posts here, made up my mind now to just sell to the home crowd.
