Historical Performance Info on International Trackers and Markets

Options
Ok now it's a new tax year I've got to sort out my finances out...AGAIN! Just applied to remortgage with Nationwide so now it's onto ISAs and figuring out if I want to open a SIPP for my partner (who is actually starting to learn about finance after years of complete disinterest).

Anyways, I've been following posts regarding trackers vs. funds vs. investing in individual shares. I must say I would like a combination of the 1st and 3rd. I want to invest in international trackers and also get to grips with value investing. My question is does anyone know how I can track previous performance of each country's markets (and by this I mean going back to when they first opened not the past 3/5 years)? I am interested in investing in Scandinavia, in NASDAQ, Japan and some Emerging Markets but I would like to know their historic performances, dividend yields, etc. Is there a website which would be able to provide me with this information?

Oh cr*p. I just realised I put this in the wrong forum. How can I move to this to the Savings & Investments forum? Anyone?

    Hi H&C

This is for the trackers, is it?

You might like to look at the exchange traded funds site - these are trackers in the form of a listed share, covering a big range of international markets.

    https://www.ishares.net

You can hold these in a SIPP, and you can also hold value (or other) shares in a SIPP also, so you seem to moving in the right direction generally :).

Sorry can't help with the historical research.Personally I find that tracking more than one major market at a time is not easy if you are investing in shares.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Regarding historical performance, this kind of data is hard to obtain. As you noticed most sites list up to 5 years performances (that's the maximum what they are required to show). I did ask this question before on this forum but didn't get an answer either. I think there are special companies available which could supply you with this info (but very expensive). If you invest in funds/trackers, you could contact the companies individually - but it might be very time consuming.
The question that comes to mind is whether this kind of data would be of any use to a regular investor in the first place...

    Hi, hobbesandco,

This yearbook probably contains the information that you're looking for - I don't know how easy you would find it to get access, though.

Edit: Just came across this thread on TMF which might be relevant.

Lists some major markets with P/E valuations and dividend yields.

Your best bet is to find the website for the stock exchange in each country.

This seems to be the Nordic Exchange.

    NASDAQ here

    Tokyo

Emerging Markets might be more difficult as their financial systems are sometimes not so well developed, hence the term "emerging". But if you just put stock exchange together with the name of the country into Google, it should give you something to go on.
