I know that this sounds controlling but I would like to send money to the USA so the recipient actually buys food with it rather than whatever!!
I know that supermarkets have gift cards etc. but this being the rather insular USA, the one I have tried that is close to him will not accept credit card payments from outside the US. He is in Ohio.
Any ideas at all? Do they have online shopping?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm from the States. We haven't really gotten around to online shopping yet. It's quite a big country and there isn't one grocery store that serves the entire US like there is in the UK (ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tescos...). What is the situation? What grocery store chains are near him?
I can't think of a real way to get around that.... my mom put me on her credit card and said I can use it to buy food at the grocery store only. If she would find that I was charging other stuff to her card, she'd have serious words with me and I'd have to pay her back. She'd probably also take her credit card back and tell me to buy my own food.
Do you have any friends or family in the States that could buy them for you and you could send them a check or money order for the amount in dollars?
Sorry I couldn't be of more help,
Kristen

Nice idea, but I knew someone at uni who did that, and they managed to convince their parents that 'The Brookhouse' was the university bookshop, whereas it was actually the local pub :rotfl:0

If you give an idea of where in Ohio you're talking about, there may be one of the bigger chains that might do. Of course, even a gift card to a grocery store will allow the holder to buy whatever the store might sell (ciggs or alcohol).
