Interesting thing learnt about Dixons prices

I was in a Dixons the other day buying a whole complete TV/DVD/SKY system on behalf of some friends (always nice to spend other peoples money....) and whilst talking to the saleman I learnt the following:
1) Anything which is priced as £x.98 or £x.97 is either end of line or very nearly, and therefore worth a haggle (too late for me on that occasion)
2) Many items have corresponding offers which may not be advertised - for example, before deciding which DVD machine and TV you want to buy, have the salesman scan them through first (they often do this to check stock anyway) and find out if there might be a more cost effective means of buying the same type of equipment just by looking at a different model.
BTW - at the moment if you sign up for Sky in-store then you get a free 7" DVD player.

Thanks for the details about sky - I am now thinking about it - but suffered from a fibbing SA in the manchester arndale branch - they were telling me I had to take the whole package, sports, movies - everything to get the offer - the leaflet says you can get the dvd player with any package - including just 2 packages - and still get the half price 3 month offer - so i will try another dixons on monday0

the 98 and 97 is the same in PC World and Currys0

Just thoght I let you know Store in o/m was closing with 50% off on cables and acesories etc, and a week later its 30% and when asked the sale person he says they wont do 50% again.
I am baffled by this what kind of gameplay is this? I have seen 20 30 50 75 but never 50% then to 30% off items.

Thanks - I'm going to oldham tomorrow - so I'll check out the discounts, as long as they aren't down to 10% now!0

Surprisingly, was looking for a 26in TV last week. PCworld were selling it cheaper than Currys. Strange if they are all Dixons group.0 -
They are all part of DSG Retail but prices do vary alot.0
-
But they will price match each other if you ask!0

This website scans the whole of the DSG group shops and finds all of the reduced items
www.offeroftheday.co.uk
Not many of them seem to end in 97 or 98p though.. Like deanos says, the prices do seem to vary quite a lot across the shops0 -
I was joking about oldham having 10% off - but I was right - I looked at the Kameleon remote control - 4 in 1, and they were offering an extra 10% off - so £22.50 - I left it alone!0

The reason why none of them have a 98 or 97p at the end is because they are re-priced to that rather than discounted. ie PCW are showing the MOTO house monitor at a 57% discount to £99.99. If it was discontinued, it would just be £99.97 with no %% discount as it will never go up again.
I used to work there. If you go through the store rooms theres always something small that is never on the shelves, most of the time it is ending in 97p, this is because there central system tells them that some stores still have items in stock so they should keep reducing them until they go off of stock sheets, nobody actually thinks to find out which stores have them in stock and why the are not selling!0
