Favourite courier?

If there is such a thing who is your favourite courier to receive a parcel from?

Any one that provides a cheery smile?

It seems that they have a fairly bad image and I was interested if anyone had any good experiences.

I really couldn't care less as long as my parcel arrives in one piece, and within the time frame that it was supposed to be delivered in.

The guy who delivers in my area for Home Delivery Network (never thought I'd have a good word to say about them) who knows just to chuck the parcel over the back gate if there's no-one home. Oh, and the driver for Next Directory who drew a smiley face on the note I'd left him telling him where to leave the parcel and posted it back through the letterbox...don't know why he did it but I just like that he did.

I figured that was most people's idea most couriers are much of a muchness, nice to hear that some drivers do that little bit extra. It would be nice to know some people do more than just getting the job done.

I know the post office used to (do they still?) have postie of the year, do any others have a similar worker's reward/incentives?

parcelfarce arnt bad, they seem to deliver everything before 12 to me, although they are not cheap.

ive grown quite fond of citylink recently, although i used to hate them for shoddy service they have improved a lot in my area.

My experience comes from the sending side mostly. You tend to get a more personal service from Fastway but that's the nature of their business in that each collection driver is a franchisee. I've been friendly with some Parcelforce drivers but my main one is a miserable so and so, now I think of it, so is my postman, he smiled once in 1996;)

So if you thought that a courier offered a good friendly service would you be willing to pay that little bit extra for it?

I don't think any courier has a good enough reputation that if you put on your listings that goods would be sent by ChirpyChappy Couriers that customers would be happier to pay extra for it.

BTW if anyone knows why I started this thread please let me know, I think I had a mad half hour!

I like the ones (like DPD) that use a bit of common sense and leave your package somewhere if you're not in (garden, neighbours, shed etc). DPD drivers seem to have more discretion than most.

Citylink are the worst IMHO - they never leave things, just a note saying they will try again tomorrow. And if you're out when they try the second time, as most people are during the day, they return it to the sender! You can ring up to arrange a redelivery, but have to pay to get it delivered at a time that anyone is in the house, like evenings or weekends, and if you're away from home for two or more days it can be back with the sender before you know anything about it! Useless.

dpd are good but they only get to my house at 3pm (must be a long trip from the depot) ive noticed that overclockers has started using them instead of citylink which annoyed me a little as now i have to wait in all day for parcels.
