Hi
My sons xbox 360 console broke (two red flashing light) so we phoned the xbox customer service uk up and they said that because we had the console for 18 months it was out of warranty so we would have to pay (£90) for them to fix the problem or we could take it to a shop and get it fixed, so thats what we did. We took it to a shop and payed £50 to get it fixed and they fixed it the same day. Over a month later (last week) the console then broke again, however this time it had three red lights, which is a manufacturing fault and because of this microsoft has increased the warranty to three years for this problem. So we phoned the support help line again and they confirmed that it was covered for three years for this problem and arranged for it to be repaired (free of charge). The console was taken away and after a couple of days they sent an email with a link to the progress of the repair and it said that the console had been repaired or replaced and was being shipped back to us, when we recieved it however it had a letter saying that they would not fix the three red lights because the console had been tampered with BUT how else was the previouse problem supposed to be fixed if that was the case they did not mention the first time we phoned them about the two red lights that if we took it to a shop to be repaired that this would void the warrenty for the manufactuturing fault of three red lights. After complaining about this we now have to wait for them to contact us (if that happens) and they seem to think that they have no complaints department. So after this are we entitled to repair or replacement?
any help would be appreciated,
Glynis

Microsoft were right in what they said, i dont think you are entitled to anything as you had the console opened up by a shop and not microsoft. The console was opened up which voided the warranty0

You literally are going to get nowhere with Microsoft. They are very stubborn on things like this. As the console has been opened by a third party, the warranty is voided. For all Microsoft know, you have flashed the DVD drive to play pirate games, and this is one of the reasons why they will not fix it.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Thanx everyone for ur comments , im still gonna complain cause if they had of told me about the warranty being void if went else where to get it repaired i wouldnt of and i also think that they should be lasting more than 18 month anyway and them asking for 90 pound to fix it well i could of bought a new one for 120 its shocking really and i wouldnt care i just paid 40 pound for his live subscription a few weeks ago:mad:0

Why not call Microsoft, then ask how much it would be for them to repair it? You'll possibly get a lecture, so then ask if you can get a refund on your 'live' payment, casually mention you're thinking of buying a Playstation instead.
Mention Sony treat their customers better you've heard, well so someone was saying whilst you were relating your story about your broken Xbox to a friend etc. They may find a passing supervisor, the one thing they won't like is that you may dump the platform and jump to the next. It may not work, but nothing lost if it doesn't:D
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
