Renault Clio Key stuck in Ignition - need new key/barrel urgently - help?

My husband is away working for the weekend in Bournemouth. We live in London and he took my Renault Clio runaround as I need our larger car to pick up son and many suitcases from Heathrow on Sunday morning.

Husband just phoned to say he had arrived and parked up, and found key was stuck in ignition. He called out breakdown service and they said they could not fix on the spot and the "bar"? was stuck and it needed a new key and barrel. They could not source one on a Friday afternoon and it could not be fixed until early next week. Once it was fixed he would have to drive it back as it would no longer be eligible for recovery service.

His job in Bournemouth ends sunday afternoon and he has another one in London on monday evening. All his gear in the car. So after some discussion of the options (all inconvenient and expensive) with not very helpful local breakdown service, we agreed he would get it recovered back here with him in it on Sunday as part of breakdown service.

We have a local garage here where it can be fixed on Monday but it is a one man band and he is working off on a job somewhere else at present. So bottom line is that I need to source a new Renault Clio key and barrel urgently to take round to the garage on Monday to speed up the repair.

Any suggestions for where I may get one? I live in West London and do drive and can drive reasonable distance to pick up parts needed.

    I don't think a Ford Focus lock will fit a Renault Clio..

No it has to be a Renault Clio (Rt 3 door hatch 1991-8) barrel and ignition key. I have seen some on Ebay and in remote parts of the UK but ideally I want to be able to collect it today or tomorrow and give it to garage owner on monday morning so it can be fixed same day. (Garage owner is old friend but cannot contact at present). As we live in west London am looking for parts dealer with one in stock, or breaker, within reasonable driving distance of London.

You are going to have to go to Renault for this. Ring the parts dept. of your local dealer to order it in. If it needs a key as well, it may need to be coded in. Order the parts and get your local guy to fit it - as he will be cheaper than the dealership.

Sometimes you need to show ID when ordering keys these days...

i was not on about fitting a focus barrel into a clio but about that there is a button that you press that gets the key out.

i think the point being made here has been missed.

heretohelp was trying to say if the clio is an automatic then the gear selector might need to be in park or neutral before key is removed, therefore it might just be a simple linkage or rod causing the problem.

Fair enough, it may have been helpful to the OP to have added that to your earlier post.

Anyway it transpires that it isn't an automatic.

    That's a shame! :D

Coincidently I needed a new ignition barrel for a Ford yesterday - available immediately over the counter from the Ford dealer for just over a tenner (cheaper than most on ebay!). :T

Keys cut to desired format were also available if required - I didn't need them as I made the barrel up to suit the existing keys.

The only problem is the barrel comes as a kit of 24 individual parts (and you only use 18 of them) and no instructions!

Oh well, 30 minutes of using my jigsaw puzzle solving skills soon had the new barrel assembled. (Only takes a couple of minutes when you know how!) :)
