Could be an issue with his firewall, either on the computer or on the router? I've had similar issues before, and it's turned out to be because my firewall was blocking MSN Messenger's access to the internet
You could run through the "program control" settings on his firewall to see how it's got MSN set up, or re-run the "automatic program control" (most firewalls have them) and automatically set up settings for MSN messenger
If that doesn't work, one thing I've tried before is to close down my browser and shut down all other programs that are connecting to the internet. Then switch off your firewall for 5 minutes and run MSN Messenger. It 'should' now work. Then switch your firewall back on, and if you're lucky it will pop up with a message about detecting a connection to the internet - approve this connection and all should be ok
**NOTE** switching off your firewall is potentially a risky thing to do, so make sure that no other programs are accessing the web when you do so. But in most instances it should be ok
Failing any of the above working, delete MSN Messenger from the computer and re-install it
Failing that, delete it and re-install a different version
Failing that, I dunno, switch to Yahoo, Google or ICQ???!!!0 -
