Workman stolen jewellery!!

OMG! I've just had a workman round to the house to fix my oven - he's just ten minutes ago left - and my very nice bracelet that my husband bought me for our wedding anniversary has gone! I took it off to clean the oven before he came :o and put it on the kitchen windowsill - I forgot to put it back on. I know I haven't moved it and there is nowhere for it to fall or get lost. There are no kids or anyone else in the house. It must have been him - there is no other explanation! what should I do though. I feel like phoning him but what if I've got it wrong - and he's hardly going to admit it if I'm right. It was a lovely bracelet which cost £130 - not a fortune I know but it was a gift from my husband and I cant believe its gone. Can i bother the police? Claim on contents insurance??

    Call the police immediately.

If it does turn up in the house, then it turns up. If he's nicked it, time is of the essence before he flogs it.

Ouch , call the police like Fen said ,

But have one more last look before you do just incase. You can tell them who was in or out of your house etc , unfortunately i cant see them doing anything about it as per usual.

If you genuinely believe that it has been stolen, this is a police matter.

You will need to report it to the police to claim on your insurance. I would think carefully about the affect on any no claims discount if you did claim.

Oh how dreadful. How could he do that though - I mean he would know he would be prime suspect.

You have to ring the police even if only to get a crime number to claim on your insurance.

Oh i'm sat here in tears now - I feel stupid for leaving it lying around but I dont understand why he would take it?? You are right he would be prime suspect - noone else has been in or out???
Am having a last good look before I call the police. I dont want to cause a massive fuss.

Why dont you ring the workman now and say, did my bracelet accidently slip into your bag or anything as it was next to the oven? That gives him a get out if he feels guilty to say oh yes, it must have dropped in.

Hi am sorry to hear about this situation,

I would contact him and simply ask him if he remembers seeing it anywhere as you have lost it. Remember it is only you who knows where you last saw it.

Just say you have lost it and try to enlist his help to find it. If he cannot help and he is genuinely not guilty he will only be too pleased to offer help. mention you may have to inform your insurers(which infers police).

I Know if it was me I would be back round faster than you could blink to help, moving heavy equipment etc etc. I would check my cases as well. May I ask if you have young children at home at the time

I hope it works out for you and you do get it back.

I have to say, that there have been occasions when my OH - who is a builder - has put dust sheets all over a room and when he comes home Ive found little nick nacks caught up in them. Course, I ring up the people and take or post the bits back. Did the guy put dustsheets everywhere which may have caught the bracelet?

    I've found it :o:o

I called the workman who said he hadnt seen a bracelet but that he'd moved some items to get to the cooker mains switch and put them on the window sill. As he'd moved these items back I didnt realise that he'd moved them IYSWIM.
So I've literally taken the kitchen apart and found my bracelet in the under sink cupboard!! He must have knocked it off the side and my bracelet fallen down a small gap between the worktop and the tiling, down into the cupboard below!!

I feel a bit silly now and glad I didnt go accusing anyone (altough I did on here!). Still, he could have takne more care when moving things about - but then, I shouldnt have left it lying around :o

Just really glad it turned up before I called the police etc. then I really would be red faced!
