Wolverhampton to Euston via Stafford?
Right, i was @ Wolves not long ago enquiring about a train time that i thought had changed and when the woman looked it up she said 'oh the quarter past one is via Stafford, but ur not allowed to do that journey on a WVH-EUS ticket.
i said i had an 'open/any route' ticket, but she said it still wasnt allowed.
Has this changed? i used to do this journey all the time on sundays when the WVH one took the long 3-4hr route.

Via Stafford is not a Permitted Route.
Whether is has changed recently or not, I don't know.0 -
Is it possible that it's changed as a result of Virgin losing the Cross Country franchise ?0

so wot part is the 'any route' for?!0

When there is engineering work it is often the case that routing restrictions are eased.
it was one of the station people that told me of the stafford route and said they should shut off the WVH one as stafford is quicker and skips b'ham. but obviously they cant do that due to the uni traffic.
never had problems ticket wise on both trains, the inspectors knew what i was doin.0 -
Maybe 'any permitted' is via Birmingham? Most guards would expect stafford to be a permitted route though so probably wouldn't be bothered. I guess you could do WVH - BHM - TAM - EUS ?0

'Any permitted' will include going to Marylebone via Banbury, travelling round the Northampton loop, and probably lots of other minor variations. At one time Paddington via Oxford or even Waterloo or Victoria via Oxford/Reading/Ascot was permitted - not sure if this is still the case.0

goin into MYB tho is iffy ticket wise. some of them qtn tickets if it doesnt have MYB on it, or an obvious A-B. Leaving and on the train is very lax, but entering is a whole different kettle of fish.
so mainly any 'long' route is fine but not quickies?? good to know. thanks guys.0
