Greek island holiday help please!

I'm looking to take my daughters to a Greek island (was thinking Rhodes) for a week in the holidays.

I don't want to spend more than £1500 for the three of us, depart from Manchester, dates wise 23rd August, getting home no later than 4th September and somewhere with a nice sandy beach for youngest daughter and I and a medium to large hotel so eldest daughter can make some friends.

Prefer no less than half board. 2 Adults and one child (10)

I've never taken them to Greece and wouldn't rule out anywhere but I thought of Rhodes because I knew my youngest would love the butterfly farm and they do trips to Turkey which could be good (how many £?)

Thank you for you help, I'm doing as much looking as I can too!

Is that price an all inclusive one your looking for? or self catering?

    Just wondering
I like Tsilivi in Zante - few boat trips there - with sea turtles :)
but I also like Hanioti on the Chalkidiki peninsular
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
  • Rhodes Town is a good option, close to the port and buses for daytrips, you are looking at B&B for that price in the school hols though, and trips to Turkey will include a visa cost for each of you so you are looking at a day trip of over £100 in ferry costs alone for 3 people. The beach isn't the best but useable, and you will likely have to pay for this unless you book a hotel that offers a beach concession.

I think Tsilivi in Zante would be your best option,my son and family go every year and love it, nice beaches, night life if you want it.

If you choose Rhodes I wouldn't go to Faliraki it's a pretty wild scene apparently. Rhodes town is very interesting and you can go across to Turkey and other Greek Islands for a day trip.

I was hoping to spend no more than £1500 for the holiday, possibly slightly more if it was AI, I always travel in the school hols and never paid more than that for one week before....so much for bargain last minute holidays!!

Trisha, Faliraki wasn't where I was looking, don't worry! My 17 year old would be a nightmare there!

I would still like to do the Turkey trip from Rhodes, I like to see somewhere new.

I'll check out Zanta and I wouldn't mind Corfu perhaps.

I love Greece & have been to a lot of the islands. (Family living on the mainland too :D) Rhodes is pretty "spoilt" as a Greek island (although having said that we did manage a nice break there, just sunbathing, snorkeling and avoiding the bar scene). If you want to go to Turkey, Kos is closer. (20mins vs 2 hours). Why not try one of the smaller islands near Kos like Kalymnos which are quieter and still serve good Greek food instead of what the larger resorts think that the English want.

Kos is a rather nice island - you can do the turkey trip from there as well ;)

Just glanced at lastminute.com (did I mention I love thinking about travelling to Greece lol) and there are some cracking deals - if you insist on going AI (surely not in Greece) then you could get a week for the 3 of you at the 4* Atlantic Hotel on Kos for £664. Have a look!

have been to a few greek islands, Kos, Rhodes and Zante have been my favourites so far i i had to choose it would be between Rhodes and Zante, although in my experience greece arnt big on AI, and to be honest we have always found that the price difference you pay for AI or self catering is so big that you'd be pushed to spend that much money on eating out every day so it usually works out cheaper to go self catering
