Hi all, im going into my second year of uni in sept and have just received my finance notifications.
I started a job a couple of months ago doing 16 hours to get working tax credit (i have 2 children and a single mum). Anyway i wasnt getting enough hours to qualify for wtc and have given it up.
Im about £600 in my od at the moment and need to get money fast to last me the 6 weeks holidays.
My credit is rubbish, can i open a student bank account to get the overdraft now and pay it off with the loans in September. Or do i not get the overdraft till september even though im a student now?
Or is there student credit cards out there for people like me with a crap credit score. This is only temporary till i start but im worrrying now because of my children and rent etc
Please could someone help?

You only need to work 16 hours in order to claim working tax credit. You seem to have been very badly advised.
As for the student credit cards.. I don't think you'll have much luck there. The banks are cutting back on credit to working people with good credit scores.
Best of luck anywayBe happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
sorry i meant that when i was working i wasnt getting the 16 hours in. At a stretch i was only working 10 hours. Ive applied for 2 student bank accounts today explaining that i would close Abbey (my account now) and anyway i didnt succeed. Ive also applied for a credit card and that was useless aswell. so today i have gone for 3 types of credit which has ruined my credit score even more. Ive opened a normal bank account with RBS and they said in a couple of months they will give me an overdraft but i will be fine in a couple of months, i need money NOW! By September i will be fine again. its always the way, when you need money youve never got it!!!!!PAD from July= £55.10Aug= £120.57Getting organised for christmas!!!!0

Hi, you maybe able to claim income support during the holidays depending on the ages of the children.
You could apply for the access to learning funds from the university.
Don't think of borrowing money as you will get yourself into a mess financially.0 -
Are you spending more than you earn?0

Have you applied for housing benefit? How old is your youngest child? You may be able to get income support if you are working less than 16 hours (depending on your wages).
Does your uni have an advice centre? (either student services or the student union) They might be able to both advise you on your entitlement and help you find additional funding.0
