Debenhams store card debt

Options
Apologies if this has been mentioned before - I don't usually come into this part of the forum!

A relative of mine (who has never been taught much to do with money and moneysaving - I recommended this site ;)) has a Debenhams store card which obviously has very high interest rates.

She doesn't use the store card any more except for "emergencies", but I'm trying to get through to her and, from what I read in the articles on the main site, recommend she transfers the outstanding balance from the store card to an Egg card with 0% on balance transfers for the first 6 months. (I'll make sure the actual card is way out of reach!)

She would then be able to pay off the remaining debt on the Egg card within 6 months (I don't actually know what the debt is but she did say it would be possible to pay off within 6 months)

But, never being in the situation myself, how do I go about arranging it to be transferred? Can you transfer debt from a store card to a credit card?

Thanks in advance :)

I think you have to contact Egg and ask them to transfer the balance from Debenhams to Egg.

Then the debenhams one is paid off and the balance is then on the egg card.

Forget Egg - they are not that great anymore.

Try the new Barclaycard one - if you apply via barclays.co.uk and then choose the card, you get 10 months 0% and no handling fees. Then when she goes to activate her card, she can do the balance transfer then.

Some other cards that you can apply for online also allow you to enter details of the balance transfer at the time of applying - Capital One springs to mind.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to type some notes up with a link to this thread. :)
