Instead of sorting out my listings for the weekend this has now got me searching for obscure food items:rolleyes:

It's not the obscure items that you should be looking for....

There is a VERY successful seller on eBay who has their own storage unit, and posts out about £30k worth of food per week to ex-pats. Things like HP sauce, soups, crisps, sweets etc. Everything goes out by 48 hour worldwide courier, and I was surprised at how many people in the far reaches of the planet will pay £18 for one bottle of HP sauce.

I'd say an Aston DBS is a fair measure of success in this case.

Corned beef is apparently a huge seller!
My ex FIL is an Ex Pat and used to take tins of it back with him every time he visited UK, and asked people to post it out to him cos all his friends and neighbours wanted it too!

  • I had an Australian friend who tried to take back a Christmas pudding in their suitcase. Apparently it was opened and searched as it resembled semtex on the scanner.

Same thing happened to a friend who was going to Tenerife for Christmas and had packed an Xmas pud :D

I have a friend who moved abroad several years ago. I regularly send her parcels of her favourite things that she misses from home and take fresh stuff (like a particular type of loaf of bread & teabags) when I go to visit. Bacon is difficult to come by where she lives and ex-pats have been known to pay ridiculous sums of money for packs of bacon when they can lay their hands on them.

    Damn.

I fancied a packet of crisps earlier.

What with the Tesco Express, Sainsbury, three petrol stations, Co-Op, two Costcutters and a Londis within half a mile I forgot to look on Ebay.

Lucky for me that the first place I went to had them, eh?
