Silver surfer really needs help

I know this will be really simple to most people but I have tried all ways to unrar a RAR file. There is 5 parts to it and it never asks me for the next part.If I extract them one at a time, I don't know how to link them together once they are extracted. I would be most grateful for any help.

If you are running WinRAR - https://www.rarlabs.com - then it should automatically handle multi-part RAR files. Just click on the first one in the list and it should sort things out.

There are several ways to answer this question. But I shall choose the easiest, create a Folder on your drive and extract the contents of each of the rar files to that folder. Or you could install and use Extract Now from here

If that doesn't do what you want it too, it could be that the .rar files are 'split' using something like HJSplit here you shall have to run the program, point to the first far file and hit the Join button. You should then have a complete .rar archive.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

I do wonder if you have double clicked on the rar file and you are seeing what's inside and then trying to unrar each one?

If you are using winrar...just left click once to highlight it then select 'extract'

Some RAR's are packed by complete idiots.

There should be one 'master' .RAR file called MSE.rar then other .RAR files called MSE.r00, MSE.r01, MSE.r02 etc etc etc.

Thats how it should be done.....some people do it different though, which requires EACH .RAR file to be opened and the contents extracted to a temp folder until every .RAR files contents are in the temp folder.

Once this is done the temp folder should have the file you wish to use. :/

Thanks for all your help and tips etc but nothing seems to work. I unpack the first one them go on to the second, then when the 2nd is unpacked it says "do I want to replace this file with the 1st one? It seems as if it is a copy of the 1st one and I havent gone any further as I'm sure it will say the same for parts 3,4 and 5.

It sounds like by unpacking the first one you are actually unpacking all of them. Winrar is clever enought to know the other rar files are part of this process.

Just unrar the first one and job done.

  • Hi
You usually only extract the first one, this will automatically extract the rest, by getting the message "do you want to replace" it means that you already have extracted them all.
Usually when you extract, you will then see either a folder/files or another winar file, if you see another winrar file then again extract that, then you should get a result.

    Hope this helps
