Car insurance price hike?

I've just had my renewal letter for my car insurance and it's gone up from last year by about £20. Previously it's always gone down from one year to the next.

Can anyone tell me have premiums gone up quite a bit and that's why they're wanting to charge us more?

Stiffing us for £320 for a Group 5 car for two people that have held full clean licences for over 15 years and have 10 years no claims discount seems a bit of a joke. Ok it includes basic business cover, legal cover and a protected no claims discount but am I expecting too much to get it for less?!

My renewal letter always is dearer than last year's quote. I just presumed you had to move year after year to get a better one??

We've been with the same insurer for a few years now. The renewal notice is always more than I can get the policy for from their web site but they will always match the price when I phone them. I'm sure if they can do that they've probably got a bit of flexibility to drop it a few quid more!

mine is up for renewal soon, certainly over the last few years I've got it reduced by getting cheaper quotes on www.quotezone.co.uk and going back to my broker who has then matched it - last year I got a Peugeot 307 for 2 drivers fully comp for under £200!

Take about an hour and put your info into Gocompare,.com or Confused.com You will almost always get a better deal and your insurer is very likely to match a better offer meaning you don't even have to move providers. I saved £140 on the offer from my existing insurer this year and they matched it when I gave them the details.

You won't regret it and it's so much easier than having to telephone lots of different companies which used to take me days. :T

I tried those sites as suggested and the quotes are all pretty similar. The cheaper ones have a slightly higher excess and it's sometimes difficult to trawl through all the small print to check I'm getting as much cover as I have at the minute.

Looks like I'll stick with the one I'm with ... but, being the MoneySaver that I am I'll use my best negotiating skills to try to wangle a few quid off!

Try ringing around as well. I spent hours last month trawling through websites when my renewal from Quinns came in with a hefty increase of 27%.

I eventually went with Endsleigh who were cheaper than last year's with Quinn, and I'd trust them to pay out more easily. Rang Quinns but they said there was no way they could price match. Got the Endsleigh quote from gocompare.com (don't forget Quidco for the search, but be aware that you can't have Quidco cashback on the policy itself if you take a policy from a comparison site quote).

Go to Direct Line for your car insurance, just renewed mine and it was £25 cheaper than last year, now paying £195 for a Scenic for myself and wife with no claims protection, which came in handy when I wrote my old car off in May:eek:

Direct line had my car recovered, assessed, written off and cheque in the post to me within a week of my accident;) expected my insurance to go up this year but well happy with my quote. I have had insurance previously with most Norn Iron firms but would not go to anyone bar DL now:D
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

direct line this morning worked out £50 dearer than my renewal quote and £100 more than the best I could get on quotezone.co.uk - don't think theres gonna be a one size fits all answer to this

and yes despite no claims or changes my premium had gone up about 30%
