BT Questions

There's probably a really easy answer to this but I'm not sure and google has been uphelpful.

For 20plus years we had a BT line and paid BT the bill inc line rental and everything.

For the past approx 3 years we've pay Sky everything but nothing has changed (ie - noone's been to add/take/change the box etc)

So if we change our number who would we ask?

I'm pondering swapping our landline from Sky Anytime to this as it covers the 0845/0870:

Does anyone else have it and is it any good?

thanks guys :T

If you do need to change your number and you pay your phone line rental bills to SKyTalk you ask them,or if you pay your line rental to BT you ask them.

Your link goes to a number of BT plans which particular one are you interested in ?,they all include inclusive 0845/0870 calls of some sort or the other.

Are you using www.saynoto0870.com to get alternative 0845/0870 numbers.

Also bear in mind that BT have to allow you to use indirect suppliers,so you could use www.18185.co.uk and get cheaper peak (5p a call) 01/02/03 calls, and cheaper mobile calls.

Why do you want to change your number? No work has to be done at your home to change your phone or broadband service, you just switch providers.
The only issue may be if your Sky line has been switched to an LLU service.

    Thanks guys.

Sky isn't LLU, there's only Talk Talk, Virgin and BT are our local exchange, everything else is repackaged BT stuff (ditto our O2 broadband). We do go through sayno yes, but sometimes unfortunatley a number can't be found on there.

The one we would want is the complete one for 4.93ish a month - we pay a fiver a month to sky for the same thing - free calls at all times aside from the 0845 numbers, 09 and mobiles.

Everything is paid to Sky now (line rental/bb etc)

We want to change because of harassing calls. It's been going on since March and tbh the sound of the phone ringing makes me physically twitch now.

I know work doesn't need to be done in the house for changing providers but I've been reading the second line thing and I'm contemplating having that from BT and cancelling the other (a faff I know) but after all the crackling and noises and clicks and things we have on our original line a brand new one may help it. They've run all sorts of checks on our line and found nothing - perhaps it's just old.

The £4.95 a month rolling contract does exactly what it says on tin but if you wanted free connection for a second line you cant have this deal so it would cost you £5.95.

Bear in mind that that you could get 99 peak calls a month for 4.95 if you used 18185. Do you make that many?

Ok you do have to consider cost of 0845/0870 peak calls if you have to make a few.

On the nuisance calls have you spoken to the Malicious Calls Bureau on 0800 661 441 (24hrs, 7 days a week).

We don't make any calls to 09 or international numbers if that's what you mean :)

We do have to make a few 0845/0870's a month (quite a few) when we can't find changes for them.

    Thanks again :)

No i was asking do you make many peak calls to 01/02/03 numbers. :D

But if you cant be faffed to remember to use alternative suppliers and look for alternative 0845/0870 numbers then the BT package is fine.;)

Changing your number will not get you a new physical line! If there is noise on the line and it's upstream of the BT master socket then you need to complain to your provider and get them to escalate the problem to OpenReach.
But make sure it's not a problem on your internal wiring first or you'll be charged a minimum £120 call out.
