in Credit cards
Can anyone tell me how a pensioner (ie unemployed) can get a new card? My Nan spends a lot of time abroad and it's costing her dearly to get at her money via her Barcalycard Visa. She doesn't have a job, but she does have a good credit rating. Any ideas?

Why not use a visa debt card ?0

Why on earth is she drawing money from her credit card???
Three solutions:
1) Use a debit card from current account - however she will still pay a cash withdrawal fee.
2) Get a foreign bank account, assuming she goes to the same country each time???
3) Get a Nationwide acccount - I think they are the only bank who doesn't charge a cash withdrawal fee for use of debit card abroad (I'm sure someone will correct me on this one???)British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Go for the nationwide card first. If she cannot get this, and as she is a pensioner, the saga card may be ideal for her, as it is available for over 60s only. This card will have no loading fee on overseas spending.0

The error in your statement is that it is not her money she is withdrawing from Barclaycard she is only borrowing it, hence why she is being charged so much.iabw12 wrote:Can anyone tell me how a pensioner (ie unemployed) can get a new card? As others have said, the only way to avoid interest charges is to get a debit or cashcard that will work abroad and the best one to get is thge Nationwide Flex Account as they do not even charge commission.0
