If you're using a PC click Start > Run, type CMD and click OK. Then in the black box that appears type IPCONFIG and hit enter, this will show your IP address.0

what OS have you got?
Try typing "command" instead of "cmd"Lady Astor: "Winston, if I were your wife I'd put poison in your coffee."
Sir Winston Churchill: "Nancy, if I were your husband I'd drink it."0 -

If you connect directly to the Internet from your PC (via a USB modem for example), IPCONFIG will display your public IP as allocated by your Internet Service Provider.
If you are behind a router then it will display your local IP address that has been provided by the router.0 -

Try Start -> Run then WinIPCFG. Sounds like your using either Windows 98 or Windows ME.
Otherwise Birdie's suggestion is easiest0 -

Hi
just getting a bit confused with regard to IP addresses
what is the difference between LOCAL IP address and PUBLIC IP address.
We are behind a router with NTL but the IP address that is showing on other websites (ie forums).. we have just found that other people have this IP address also???
How can different people have the same IP address showing, strange thing is 2 of these people used to live in our town but have since moved away...another person still lives here.
If you understand me then can anyone shed any light on this please, my OH is getting concerned that his IP address is being used by other people.
Thanks in advance0 -
don't worry about it. People aren't using your address you all share a generic address, probably the server you're all connecting to. AOL is the same.0
