You can be referred to a dental hospital by any dentist, not just an NHS one. They will not provide implants on a scale like this to someone who has just neglected their teeth though!
Dental implants are not a 'fit and forget' item. Like your own teeth, if they are to last they need regular care and attention. Wherever you get them fitted, you will need to factor in regular visits to have them checked/cleaned/maintained, and you will have to do a lot of work yourself
The dentist who does this will need to be familiar with the system used, and experienced in looking after them. This will NOT be your average NHS dentist. If they're done abroad, then any UK dentist may well not want to take responsibility.
Getting the money together to have it done is just one part. Maintenance costs will be a lot lower than having them done - but it won't be peanuts. Make sure you have a plan for not only where to get them and how to pay for that, but where you're going to get them looked after and how that will be financed.
If you've got on OK with a full upper denture, why not have just a full lower one as well? It's true that they're a little harder to get used to, but if looking after your teeth and seeing a dentist regularly has been a problem for you up to now, are you REALLY going to change your habits enough once you've got implants, or will it just be a hugely expensive mistake? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
This is wy i have come on hear for help
iv learnt my lesson the hard way after bad expiriences with previous dentist so i havnt bee back now it too late
so it is help i need i dont want dentures as i hate them thats wy iam asking about implants ,0 -
Get it done well, by someone who spends time preparing you well for what you'll need to do to look after them and who takes their time to make sure you are completely aware of what you're undertaking, and the costs involved in treatment, life expectancy and future maintenance.
I personally do not believe this can be done in a couple of weeks on a jolly to a foreign land.
It could well be several months before anyone even decides you are suitable for the treatment in the first place. How to find a dentist.

I've been for consultations with a number of dentists regarding implants (all recommended by my own private dentist) there are plenty of reputable places in the UK that will do them, maybe a little more expensive that budapest but that will be more than made up for by peace of mind and follow up care. This really isn't something to scrimp on, your implants should last you the rest of your life and should be viewed as a huge investment.
Personally I eventually decided against implants, not because I didn't want the implants but because the accompanying orthodontic work I would have required was more than I wanted to comit to in my 20s.
It was offered to me on the NHS so a lot of people would say i was mad to turn it down but it is a huge comitment of time, and effort, not to mention the vain considerations of how you would look at 30 with train track braces!!!
Whilst I'd love to swap my dentures for implants, for now I'll make do with them and my slightly wonky teeth and if I get fed up I'll just look at the school photos from before I had any orthodontic work!
Who wants a pristine britney spears smile anyway?!0 -
Thank you very much for such a sensible post!
Too many people think that the most expensive way to fix the problem is automatically the best, and then start looking around to find the cheapest way to get the most expensive treatment done!
That way disaster lies! How to find a dentist.

iam aware this will take a long time
and iam not looking to go abroad but are asking peoples advice in the uk and abroad
and iam set on haveing implants wy would i want dentures over implants if i can have them
if any 1 else has had them dun in the uk let me know0 -
"and iam set on haveing implants wy would i want dentures over implants if i can have them "
because having implants means a major change in the way you look after your mouth and possibly lifestyle( if you smoke the chances of failure are much higher so many implant specialists will not treat you if you smoke) and will mean a lifetime of regular and careful maintainance and regular visits to the dentist and possibly hygienist. You will have to be meticulous in the way you look after implants.. you can lose them as easily as you lose teeth and components on them will need replacing/renewing throughout your life.
Becuse if you do not have the right quality and quantity of bone you may have to have additional proceedures e.g. bone harvested from your hip to give a stable base for implants.
because many people do wear dentures with no problems and considerably less expense than implants.0 -
my mum had full dentures at 21 and has never looked back. Most people don't know she has dentures. I would go for dentures over implants any day of the week!0

One of the lucky ones.
Do you know that implants were originally developed as a way of stabilising dentures for those folks who couldn't cope with full dentures? If dentures were such a fantastic replacement for teeth the research would never have been done.
They are still used in that way sometimes, couple of implants go in fitted with an attachment that the denture clicks onto.0 -

I don't think anyone said that dentures were 'a fantastic replacement for teeth' but for some they are preferable to implants. Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0
