Go elsewhere - they must be in the minority! (Though you may have been given wrong info by an over zealous agent. There is no mention of this in their current policy on line):

I was surprised, but they were quite adamant though. Thankfully, I hadn't clicked the pay button, so can do. It's a pain now, as most insurers aren't putting any information up and after Endsleigh I feel I must check! So I'm down to ringing round instead of going online.

having read and reread the t&cs for OUL and insurewithease travel insurance, i cant find any clause against swine flu/pandemics.

id prefer to go with insurewithease for quidco cashback.. if anyone knows otherwise about their pandemic clause pleaseee let me know
  • you are not allowed to go to the hospital or doctors when you have swine flu and no insurance company will pay out unless you have a certificate from a doctor dated when you were ill. i cant see anyone getting paid out for swine flu. ask your insurance companies what to do and they will say you must see the doctor, and thats their get out of paying clause as you have got to prove to them you were ill and they only want the doctors certificate dated before or on the date of travel as proof. its happened to me with a different illness and i did nt even know as they dont make a point of telling you thats the only way you will get proof so if your feeling too ill and weak to drive to a doctor your insurance is worthless.

err.......get a doctor to visit you??
    Pay them privately if necessary.
I thought people were sent out H1N1 testing kits.

I am amazed that you think that an insurer would just take your word for it.
I'm not implying that you would do anything fradulently, but there's no way I'd expect a claim to go through on the basis of just my word, that would be dead simple for people to defraud and open the flood gates to massive amounts of fraud.
Do you honestly think an insurer can really operate on the basis of someone saying just saying "my diarrhea was so bad I couldn't travel". It's baltantly obvious to me that they can not operate that way.
  • Good news, Insureme 4 have changed their policy to accomodate Swine Flu. I purchased the Diamond Plus Annual Multi-Trip policy via Money Supermarket, as the excess was much lower than other offerings. After receiving my money tips email this morning warning of polices that may have pandemic exclusions, i looked over my policy and found out that pandemics were under exclusions. I then called them by phone and it turns out they have changed their guidelines and swine flu cancellations/overseas medical expenses is now covered. I have now received an email confirming this 10 minutes ago. It is also stated on their sister companies website staysure. It seems to be a great policy with high compensation levels but with a low £65 excess and covers holidays to Egypt under an European policy as well, grab it while you can........ :)

i just rang them and took it out also - they confirmed they will pay out if you cant travel due to swine flu as long as you can provide a doctors cert to say you can travel. its also covered if the holiday is cancelled.

im sure if needs be the dr will provide one.

im being positive and planning to be well and go on holiday anyway so hoping it wont be needed... cover only cost 12 quid though for me and my partner.

There's a parallel thread in the Savings and Investments forum, that could be worth a read http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1813561&highlight=
