help needed re: dvd scam

Options
Hi there

I am wondering if anyone can offer me some advise

I bought a dvd box set last week via a company called moviebytes, my parcel arrived today & it turns out it has been shipped from Thailand (I knew it was being despatched from overseas but not which country)

I have opened my parcel & the dvd box set I ordered is clearly a fake, the cover of the box is a printout & the case is not the same as the others in that series

They have stuck a label over the front stating "as an import edition this dvd is npt supposed to look identical or similar to uk released editions however the movie content is identical"

I have not opened the product any further & left it in its cellophane wrapping.

I quickly did a google search of this company & found that there are many people who have had the same experience, but when they have tried to get their moeny back (was paid via paypal) the company (moviebytes) took a long time to reply so that the paypal 45day help was over

Can anyone please offer any advise to help me get my money back

many thanks

BB

hi, I would contact them and see if they reply.

was this via their website or ebay?

If they do not refund within 1 week I would open a paypal complaint, your options are limited as it is either not received (which you have), or significantly not as described - you can then raise this to a dispute, BUT..you are going to have to send this back by tracked method to win the claim, and you are going to have to pay for this - this is a real PITA, but depending on how much the box set cost, and how much the postage is, at least you will get some back that way

There are also people who have been told not to send fakes back and to give to TS, and still got their money, but I would ring paypal first to make sure you don't get stitched

(I would also still ring TS with the companies website info)

If this is not an ebay sale then paypal won't necessarily help as non ebay sales are not covered for a SNAD claim. As fakes you shouldn't even be returning them anyway, but forcing a refund from a Non UK company is going to be difficult as all the normal avenues won't work.
