if you had to choose between calabray parc or orange tree for a villa which would you go for please?

    Orange tree every time

Much better area, lots more to do and if you come out and turn right (i.e. north) less brits in the shops LOL

I'm looking to start planning our first trip to Disney for April 2011. I know it's a long way away, but I want to use my husband's BA miles for the trip and for that you have to book up about a year in advance.

I visited Disney back in 1988 and we stayed in a hotel at LBV. Can anyone recommend a hotel in either LBV or one of the actual Disney hotels - I can see this holiday being a one off so don't mind paying a little bit more than the basic. If we stay at one of the Disney hotels, is it worth doing the dining deal. We will only do disney for one week as my husband isn't too keen on it (I wait for him to change his mind) so we will then spend a week on the east coast of Florida.

Recommendations for this part of the holiday would also be appreciated.

Bearing in mind the 2 centre holiday, which airport would you fly into (I believe you can also fly London-Tampa with BA).

Many thanks for any help you give me.

    It all depends on cost.

LGW to TPA (Gatwick to Tampa) is by far a better option but why not split it if you are having week 1 in Disney then do LGW to MCO and then fly out of TPA back to LGW?

I have done this with BA miles many times.

As foir Disney hotels, if its a once in a lifetime then I woudl say choose the Poly, then maybe the AKL (animal Kingdom Lodge) then if you want a moderate ie slightly cheaper i would say Port Orleans riverside or even french quarter.

If you are going for the value resorts at disney then i would suggest Pop century

But if you want an LBV hotel and still be able to walk to downtown disney check out the hotels along hotel plaza bld such as the Regal palms etc. Good value and great location

Tampa is on the west coast and only half hour from heaven on US soil - Clearwater. (All the roads have changed in Tampa so make sure you update your Sat Nav)

To get to Orlando from TPA has to be one of the easiest ddrives ever.

As you leave Tampa airport stay in the middle lane and take the 275 north. This taks you all teh way to the i-4 then its one road to Orlando, we then take the 27 and are home in 1hr 15 mins max from tampa.

    No tolls either

Don't listen to a single word anyone says unless it includes the following words "Clearwater is the best beach in central Florida"

(imo it's the best beach in the whole USA)

    I prefer St Petes ;)
  • You obviously have never been to the Anna-Maria beaches then!

in YOUR opinion only I trust :)

Remember Hawaii is part of the USA and their beaches are i hate to say much better than Florida's :)

  • HELP!

I want to go to Florida in July 2011 to celebrate a special birthday - the big 40! We want to go for a fortnight and we've got 3 children to consider, who will be 11, 10 and 7.

We did Orlando in 2003 and although we enjoyed it, we found 2 weeks doing the parks a bit much and we really want to see more this time round i.e. some beaches! We were also all packed into one hotel room, which was a nightmare!

    So where do I start????

Should I book a package or DIY?

What else is there to do in Florida apart from the Disney/Universal parks.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Chrissie,

I would strongly recommend Clearwater / Tampa Bay as areas to look at. They are beautiful and not too far from Orlando for driving. South Flroida could also be another shout (such as Miami) but my be more difficult given 3 children).

As for your comment as to package over tailor made for a split holiday... that was one of the reasons for me visiting this forum as I will explain in a new post.

    Cheers

    Anthony
