Thanks Vivatifosi, I've been a few times when I was younger (over 20 years ago now ) but I've never managed to convince dh before now.
I think I finally wore him down, but I know once he gets out there he will be the biggest kid (and I'm kind of hoping he'll get the bug and we can go every year!!!):rotfl::beer::j
That's how DH got me. And we now go every year. I do occasionally get to go somewhere else, but am under strict instruction that it is "as well as" and not "instead of"... Oh, and the other places have included, um, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Disney Cruise...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The pound has got stronger against the dollar by about 10% since last summer.
But everywhere I look, the price for the Disney 14 ultimate ticket, seems to have gone up by about £20 to about £280
Does anyone know if we can take advantage of the strength of the pound?

^ yes but you will need to check the voltages and have an adaptor.
1) Disney World: If visiting for the day (or two days), which is the best park? (not really interested in rollercoasters or big thrill rides.) Are there two-day tickets available? Is parking free?
2) Universal Studios: If I wanted to visit both sections, does this cost more? Again, is a two-day ticket available?
3) Toll Roads: Are they like the UK where you pay at one end?
4) Car Rental: Most cars are automatic yes? When filling up with petrol, are there two types (like unleaded and diesel)? Do you have to hold the pump like in the UK?
5) Attraction Tickets: Is it best to get tickets for Disney/Universal Studios/SeaWorld before travelling? I've heard picking them up from the Orlando Visitor Center is the cheapest way. If so, where is that in relation to the (international) Airport?0 -
Hi anotheruser, for ease have answered questions within the quoted section.anotheruser wrote: »1) Disney World: If visiting for the day (or two days), which is the best park? (not really interested in rollercoasters or big thrill rides.) Are there two-day tickets available? Is parking free?
Depends. Disneyworld is not the best place for rollercoasters or big thrill rides anyway, it has some, but it isn't the main draw.
If you have children I'd definitely go for the Magic Kingdom. If you are an adult, and particularly if you are visiting during one of their festivals, I'd visit Epcot. What time of year are you going?
Two day tickets are available and are a little cheaper than two single day tickets. Parking is only free if you stay at a Disney hotel. I think it is about $15-18 per day.
2) Universal Studios: If I wanted to visit both sections, does this cost more? Again, is a two-day ticket available?
You require separate admission to visit both and a two day ticket is also available. Parking prices are I think the same at Disney (but I haven't been to Universal Studios lately so not 100% sure).
3) Toll Roads: Are they like the UK where you pay at one end?
No, they have toll booths periodically along the road and when you come off. Best thing is to have some low denomination notes and some quarters with you before you set off. Oh, and make sure you know how the windows work before you get there... I have been that fool so that you don't have to...
4) Car Rental: Most cars are automatic yes? When filling up with petrol, are there two types (like unleaded and diesel)? Do you have to hold the pump like in the UK?
Most cars are automatic. I've hired a car in Orlando probably 20-30 times and have never even seen a manual. As with the UK, there are many types of petrol, so make sure you put the right one in. You do have to hold the pump, but the absolutely biggest difference is that you have to pay before you fill up. Because I don't know the capacity of my tank as it isn't my car, I tend to fill up in $10 or $20 increments.
5) Attraction Tickets: Is it best to get tickets for Disney/Universal Studios/SeaWorld before travelling? I've heard picking them up from the Orlando Visitor Center is the cheapest way. If so, where is that in relation to the (international) Airport?
Sorry, can't help with that one as I don't buy them (have annual passes). It is worth getting in touch with the Visitor Center before you leave though, they will send you lots of info through including vouchers that you can use to get discount shopping books. We've managed to eke out better bargains a couple of times as a result of these. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We don't have kids so it'll just be adult fun being in Disneyworld.vivatifosi wrote: »but the absolutely biggest difference is that you have to pay before you fill up. Because I don't know the capacity of my tank as it isn't my car, I tend to fill up in $10 or $20 increments.
What happens when the fuel tank is full but you've only got to $15 worth?
First time to America :x
Anyone used this website to get tickets:
http://www.undercovertourist.com/orlando/attractions/tickets.html
Seems okay. Not saving loads but if I can get all tickets on the one place then I'd rather do that than visiting all the individual websites.0 -

So does it stop automatically when you have reached $20 worth of fuel?

We've used Undercovertourist loads of times with no problems.0 -
We're going to Orlando at the end of April and were going to give Disney a miss but are now feeling the itch. Anyone know of any ticket competitionsor anything like that. See loads for holidays but not really for just the tickets.0

You don't tend to get ticket competitions in this country as most people would need to win the whole holiday to make it worthwhile going. You do occasionally see competitions in the US, I think Coke runs one from time to time, though it may be open to US households only, I don't know.
The only other way of getting free tickets that I know of is from timeshare providers, but you'd have to be a) really hardnosed and not be sold and b) willing to waste a day to get the ticket, in order to achieve this. Don't be tempted to buy wristbands with unused days on, or part used tickets, you don't know what you are getting and they are not transferable.
You'll see from these links that there are lots of contests, but little that can be entered from here:

Hi All,
during our holiday to Orlando later this year, we've booked the hard rock hotel at universal for the night to take advantage of the early entry and queue jumping passes.
I presume when we book in they'll require our passports, but I'm a bit worried about carrying them round the park on the day we leave? Obviously you can't take bags on the rides so I don't really want to be leaving our passports in the bags when we get on the rides (I'm presuming it's like Alton Towers etc where you just leave yours bags at the side when you get on the rides?)
Would the hard rock hold onto them until we leave? or would they not need them at all?0
