    hello,
my daughter is planning a holiday to florida in April 2011 (somewhere around the 8th for 10/14 days) she is going with three friends. they are all aged between 18-22 and are students so are on tight budgets! where can she find cheap flights?

8th April is the last day of term in many parts of the country and Easter school hols are one of the peak times so, to be honest, I would think she will struggle to get cheap flights at the start of school hols.

No worries, never book the first thing you see and hunt around to seeif you can beat the price. And don't forget Quidco, it gives 4% cashback too :D

Sheila - She is going to need to drive if staying in a villa. I am sure there is a restriction of over 25 on car hire - can anyone advise. Some of those villas can be quite a distance from the theme parks so I would have thought Public transport/cabs are an option. Is this something she has thought of?

Please please please tell her not to book flights until she knows how she can get from the villa to other places. Almost all villa communities are located a good distance from civilisation - nice and close if you are driving but either very difficult or impossible if not.

Most importantly, from most villas there is no public transport within reasonable walking distance.

There are a few (that tend to share communal facilities eg large pool/ clubhouse) that may have shuttles to the park but these are very much the exception to the rule.

If she's at one of the villas that are a long way off the beaten track, her only option will be cabs, which will cost a fortune, so much so in fact she'd be better off forgetting the "free" villa and just booking a cheap hotel somewhere accessible.

Sorry to paint a grim picture! If you can tell us where the villa is, we can make suggestions as to how easy it will be (or not) to get around.

I would hate for her to book thinking she had a bargain and then need to factor in $100 a day in cabs to get anywhere.
  • I've just seen one on Expedia for Flight, car and 2 bedroom accommodation at Floridays for 14 nights from the 1st April for just over $1100 pp. Floridays gets good reviews on Tripadvisor but does this sound like a good deal or is it just average? There is only the 2 of us going and I'm kind of resigned to paying full price for my daughter.

We're using dreams next year for our Med cruise with Disney. Flights to Barcelona are a lot cheaper than to the states.

This is my plan A, I am hoping to get it all together to do the Med Cruise 27/08/11 but if I can't do this I will be looking at WDW for the following April. I've looked so much at DCL and have totally fell for the idea :)

Have to confess, I always loved the idea of the cruise liner but in Nov, when we was in Kidani, we was in Community Hall and a lady had just come off a cruise and she was saying that she would lay in bed and the weather was really bad (we was away when the hurricane was due over St Lucia) and she could see the room rise and fall and was seasick for the entire trip. She said even off the ship it still felt like everything was moving. Which has really put me off as once you are on it you cannot really get off. So I doubt we'll ever go now which is a bit of a shame.

Please don't let that put you off, choose the Med at a good time of year, or fly to the Caribbean out of hurrucane season. On the really big ships you barely notice the movement, and it it such a great experience.

I have a sickness phobia poet..... :o Even going onto a ferry is my absolute worst nightmare. Even the thought of being trapped onboard and not being able to escape feeling sick brings me out in a hot sweat....

I went on holiday with £20 worth of anti sickness tablets in case I got sick or felt sick on the rides. I took the ones you can use for if you feel sick, not ones that you use to prevent sickness before travelling (I did a lot of research, LOL). I used one - for my son on the flight on the way out and he promptly vomited 2 minutes after taking it!! And the only time I felt a tiny bit sick was after 3 goes on Scorpian at BG but then that went within a few minutes.
