Hi Guys, i don't know if this is the right place for this, but i have just been sent a debt collectors letter on behalf of paypal for £300.
Basically couple months ago, i sold a mobile phone on ebay, i sent recorded delivery but i lost the receipt for the proof of postage i contacted royail mail numerous amounts of time but they said there is nothing they can do without a tracking number.
So the guy decides to start a case on paypal saying item not recieved, and paypal are asking me for proof of postage information which i don't have. They issued a refund to the buyer and i am left out of pocket and the phone which is blatently with the buyer.
Please advise what i can do, about whether i should pay this debt etc.
Thanks

Check out Paypal's terms and conditions. I expect they will say that the onus is on you to provide proof of postage. You could try escalating your appeal for info with Royal Mail and maybe someone will take pity on you and do a time-consuming search for your item's details, but given the volume of mail that passes through their organization I doubt it.
If you don't want to pay, I expect that eventually Paypal will employ a debt recovery firm and will ultimately take you to court. And the court will ask to see proof of payment. Which you don't have.
If you get no joy from Royal Mail, you may just have to pay up and put this one down to experience. My Debt Free Diary I owe:
July 16 £19700 Nov 16 £18002
Aug 16 £19519 Dec 16 £17708
Sep 16 £18780 Jan 17 £17082
Oct 16 £178730
