My son can also walk, but tires quickly. He also has problems with his breathing and with pain in hypermobile joints. He has a Blade wheelchair that was measured to fit him. He could choose from red, blue or purple (he chose purple).
At the appointment, he was weighed and measured. We discussedd his needs, including whether a manual or electric wheelchair was best (manual, in our case). They then gave me a few details about the chair, such as the fact it will be serviced annually, but I can ring a local company for repair in between. They also showed me which parts detach and how to fold it.It was then ordered and took less than four weeks to arrive, although we had been told it would take about six weeks.
All very easy and friendly. This was at the Wheelchair Assessment Unit at the local hospital (I'm in the North West). My son has had his chair for about two and a half years now. It has been serviced and repaired without any problems. The only thing that i have had to pay for is a cover to keep him dry.0 -

Many people get wheelchairs who can walk, I can walk about 30 metres with crutches and I have a wheelchair- well, two! At least 50% of people in wheelchairs can walk.0

Most of the people I know who are wheelchair users can walk. I wouldnt mind betting that your daughter's quality of life will go off the charts when she gets hers! I wouldnt be able to work or live alone without mine. Wishing your daughter and you the best of luck :-)0

Invasion, thanks, she is very pleased with her choice of chair, the guy in the hospital made her feel important, she will only use it for days out, shopping etc,she will not be in it all the time as the physio said it would make shorter distances worse for her in the long run.0
