Last night the computer turned itself off for no apparent reason. I disconnected and reconnected the power supply but nothing happened.
Its working fine this morning.

Any ideas?

Should I worry and do I need to get it checked over?

Google for an application called SpeedFan. Get that installed, it can monitor your system temps and psu voltages.

Might be worth looking at/posting your 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails ratings as the psu could be struggling.

Probably very unlikely, but it could have been a "brown out" where the voltage in your area is reduced because more electricity is being used than the power stations can supply.
a brownout if some power supply is retained, but the voltage level is below the minimum level specified for the system

Seeing as it just suddenly turned off and then worked this morning could point towards it, but I'm not an expert at it. ;)

Its never happened before. Yesterday it was on for about 5 hours then switched off. It has been on alot longer than this before no problems.

As for the temperature it turns off at I haven't a clue how to find this out.

I'm off to google for SpeedFan.

Also get a can of compressed air and a soft brush and blow out the fan and vents
if its a desktop PC take out all power supplys and cables remove lid and give a good blowout and gently brush dust away.

    Speedfan readings are:-

    Found ST3200822AS (200.0GB)
    Found ACPI temperature (40.0C)

    It also says HD0: 30C
    ............... TEMP1: 40C

If you look along the bottom of SpeedFan it should show a load of Voltage ratings. Post all of them here, then we can see if the psu is overloaded or not.

There could be a more practical solution of course. You didn't have a power cut that only lasted a few seconds that you were unaware of?
