Anyone had any problem with the Play.com/MBNA Credit Card Bonus Scheme?

I have recently acquired the 1500 point opening bonus having spent more than £150 on my Play.com credit card.

Following the link from the MBNA online banking website, I cashed in my 1500 points for a £15 voucher. I then received an email order form from Argos Business Solutions telling me that my 'order' would be on it's way. (Presumably Argos handle points purchases, including electronic Play.com vouchers - strange) Anyway, I waited...

A week later, I was contacted by someone at either MBNA or Argos to tell me that they hadn't been sent my email address which they obviously need to send me the voucher electronically. I provided them with my address and waited...

Several days later (surely enough time for an email to be dispatched!) I contacted Argos Business Services, who looked up my order, found it, struggled to understand what had happened, took my email address again, and raised a query with their Head Office. I am still waiting....

I am absolutely baffled as to what the problem can be as all parties seem to be able to find the order, but no one seems able to send out my voucher!

Has anyone else had any difficulties using this points scheme?

  • Just to keep people updated...

Argos Business Solutions do not know what the problem is and are still awaiting a reply from Head Office. This can take up to 5 days apparently. Marvellous.

I tried contacting the helpline on the credit card site. I'm not sure whether this took me through to Play.com or MBNA but the guy there rather doubtfully said there must have been some problems in sending out vouchers and that I should just wait until next week.

This is really shoddy service (especially as it will mean I will miss out on the sale at Play.com this weekend!) and it really hasn't endeared me to Play.com or MBNA - or Argos for that matter! If you are thinking of getting this credit card, I'd think again...

im interested in this, i just got mine last week [card]
  • Just to close this matter - my voucher finally arrived by email approximately one week after my previous post. There was no explanation of what the problem was but at least it arrived in the end.

I will stick with Play.com/MBNA and give them another chance, but if the same problems arise next time, I may be forced to change providers - however good the deal!

    Hi David,

Same thing happened to me. First voucher ordered arrived within 24 hours no problems. Second voucher didn't. I have been between Play.com and MBNA for the last hour on the phone. The points have gone from my MBNA online account status page, but are showing as still being on my MBNA account according to the MBNA call centre. Play.com say the order never went through (despite an email confirmation being received by me) and to order the voucher again. I can't as not enough points on my MBNA online account management page now.

The website that the points are managed on is apparantly nothing to do with either MBNA or Play.com despite being heavily branded with Play.com logos and having a phone number for Play.com on it. The best I could get from Play.com and MBNA was a reccomendation to wait a few days and see what happens. The Play.com sale will be over by then .

    Why is nothing ever simple?
  • I have got two vouchers so far - the first in 24 hours or so, the second took a couple of days. As my bill was less than the value of the second voucher I got an instant (less than 2 minutes) voucher back from Play.com for the balance so maybe the trick is to cash them in as soon as you have enough (500) and keep them until you need them (they are valid for a year!)

    Thanks EES,

Just got mine in an email 72 hours after ordering it. Wish they'd just say it takes 3 days in the first place.

Yes Dog C.at I wouldn't bother! Still voucherless after 3 weeks - I have rang Play.com twice & they referred me to MBNA who have referred me back to play.com. Help!! Is there any way I can email play.com? There doesn't seem to be an email for them ,but I can't be bothered ringing them again

I am having an absolute nightmare with them at the moment, i've been using the card heavily to earn points as I'm a big play.com spender anyway.

Cut a long story short i've not had any problems redeeming vouchers but i've had strange stuff happen on my points balance I just cannot get sorted. I've ended up going as far as lodging a formal complaint with MBNA this evening as i'm being fired back and forth between the two, none of the staff at either end seem to know anything about the product what so ever.

Prior to doing this I even went as far as contacting hive4business or whoever the web address on the points website resolves to only to be told that apparently my points had expired because they were over three years old ...... except I've only had the card three months... since i've had no reply!

It is beyond shocking to be honest I've really not been impressed.

I'd watch your points balance carefully by using the statement facily on the play points website, my issue is that i've had a CREDIT of -977 yes minus 977! So they've deducted nearly a tenners worth of points off me for no apparent reason and trying to get them back is impossible. All i keep getting is 'well have you spent points?' ... yes of course i have but when i've spent points the amount fits into the DEBIT part of the statement and its always in multiples of five

Anyway.... I will keep you posted!!!

EDIT - I'd recomend all of you above who are having problems to simply call MBNA on the free phone number and ask to speak to the complaints department. Trust me its the only way of getting anywhere i've had a nightmare thus far.
