Travelodge stealing from my account!!!

Did you book through the website, and did you register before you did so. If so then a record of your booking(s) will be in the "My Travelodge" section of the website.
If not ask them to give you the booking numbers of the bookings they claim you have made and the details of each of them. They are usually quite good on the phone, I've rang them a couple of times when I've headed out after work and thought, 'actually, where am I going tonight?!'0 -
It's criminal - if you paid on credit card can you reclaim through that route?0

travelodge are terrible for this--can't get hold of anyone to talk to and then they won't reply to e-mails. They charged me twice for a room and I did get the money back after I sent e-mails to everyone I could find on thier website and said I was taking them to small claims. Also sent thema copy of the e-mail I sent to watchdog (they did not take it up, but I think if more people complained about this type of thing they might)
Def send an e-mail to trading standards and a letter with recorded delivery to the home of travel lodge add which can be found (I think) on the website. If not try companies house.
don't give up--I think they probably think most people can't be bothered to fight or get fed up with the difficulty of complaining.
We never stay with them now, but I don't think they care very much!!!!!LBM-2003ish

Can you enlighten us with the specific offence of dishonesty?
It is a mistake which can be put right - if necessary through the civil courts.
PC Plod will have better things to do than investigate the heinous crime of Travelodge making a mistake. :rotfl:0 -
How strange I googled this because the same thing happened to me in on May 18th
- Booked for 1 room
- Turned up at hotel told I had 2 rooms
- E-mail travel lodge who sent me the exact same email above
My bank seemed to offer better advice. This case is not fraud because I gave them my details my only recourse it to persue this through small claims though I will follow the advice here and contact them by post first.
Their system is obviously unreliable but given that the attitude in the e-mail is appalling0 -

My bank say that my only recourse is the police or trading standards. Desperately needing advice – I cannot see how to compel them to refund me???
I'm surprised your bank told you that. Who is the bank?
If you have confirmation of a single booking, you're on good ground for getting the incorrect charge refunded -- although the process may be longwinded.
Here's my suggestion. First, forget about email. Instead, write a formal letter to
Mr Grant Hearn
Chief Executive Officer
Travelodge
Sleepy Hollow
Aylesbury Road
Thame, Oxon OX9 3AT
Explain politely what happened, stating dates and sums, and enclose a printout of the email which confirmed that you had successfully booked ONE room. Also enclose printouts of any emails that prove that you successfully cancelled that room. Also enclose a printout of your email to Travelodge asking for the erroneous charge to be refunded, and a printout of the standard email you received from Travelodge which claimed that you double booked and refused the refund.
Ask for Mr Hearn's assistance in getting the error corrected and your card refunded for the erroneous second charge. Ask for a response within 10 working days. Keep nice, don't accuse his company of stealing from your account -- you want to be the nice guy in this, Travelodge are the baddies. Remember that. You can get more insistent later, if being nice doesn't work.
If you don't receive a response from Mr Hearn or one of his underlings within the stated time (give them a few days leeway), or if you receive a response refusing to refund the charge, then you may have to go back to your bank and really tackle them over their refusal to help you. Is it a Visa Debit Card? If so, your bank CAN'T refuse to help you. See http://whatconsumer.co.uk/visa-debit-chargeback/
But if it is not a Visa Debit Card, it may be harder to force the bank to help. They're crackers, telling you to go to the police! Hopefully, it may be possible to change their mind. See what happens with the C.E.O., first.
And if I were you I would do some preliminary research into choosing a more helpful bank. I can recommend smile (I don't work for them or have any association other than as a customer). But don't change your bank until after this problem is resolved.0 -

I agree it's not fraud, more likely just a mistake, but it's obviously Travelodge's mistake, not the customer's. So your bank can still do a chargeback if you can show them that you only booked one room but were charged for two.0 -
In all fairness to the bank, if the words you used were the same as the title of the topic, no wonder they told you to call the police!
Is it possible you clicked on the confirm booking button twice?0 -
