Email the seller first and advise of your findings.
I sold a pair of boots which were size 11 but more like a 12, they had 11 stamped on them but far too big for me. I put in the listing that they were a 11 but nmore like 11.5/12.

They sold and the buyer immediately complained they were too big, I asked him to check the listing but offered a refund, never heard off him again, will struggle though as the labels have been cut and it's proving they are a 4 not a 5.5

Take pictures comparing them with your 5.5's
  • If it was a Buy It Now from a business seller you can return them.

Is there no size inside or on the bottom of the trainer?

  • So no size markings on the trainer at all? That's a bit unusual isn't it? If you've had this type of trainer before where is the size usually marked?

Send a polite email to the seller saying that these are not long enough to be 5.5, and since there is no size on them he must have sent you the wrong size. Then offer to return them for refund or exchange.

Seems odd that the size labels have been cut - if it were me I wouldn't have sold them that way, it's bad enough if i ever lend a friend my clothes, she's a label snob and always cuts the tags out of anything high street. I'm sure some catalogue websites still have the measurement charts, which should tell you how long a shoe of a certain size should measure. Check this and compare to the shoes you received. Does the seller have more of the same, they may have got confused when sending.
