i checked again at the fuse box when i got home last night and there is a seperate box with a little lift up cover that had shower written under it. which is why i hadnt spotted it first time. :o
dont think it can come out though although im scared to touch it incase i wreck it. i turned the electric off and had a closer look but it doesnt seem obvios that it can be removed.
so think i will just have to get an expert in after all.

thank you all for your replies really appreciate the help.

Then that's your separate shower circuit. Does it have a trip switch like a modern consumer unit, if so just reset it (raise the switch)? Do this with the shower off to see if you can get power back as far as the isolator switch.
If you can post a picture of it then we can advise better.
If it won''t reset, then you either have a fault in that unit, in the cable to the shower, or in the pull cord isolator switch. Or possibly a fault in the shower that has caused the circuit to trip out.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Ta-da!! :j

It will have a reset-able Miniature Circuit Breaker (mcb) in, these are modern overcurrent protection devices which have largely replaced re-wireable fuses in domestic use, they are like switches - you don't remove them! You should follow macman's advice above to reset it (flick the switch back up!), if it won't reset then someone needs to check for faults.
