bump..(well slight nudge as this page came first in the search results).
I've just been stung by Asda Home delivery as well for about £300 on my NatWest debit card (Maestro).
Card was compromised, as far as I can tell, by an O2 call centre in Northern Ireland - we did contact O2 about this but they really don't care and would rather I report the matter to the police. (The fraud was on the Internet and the ONLY company taking enough details to be able to do this on this card was O2 - not that they or anyone else seems to care.)
NatWest require me to complete a form, which they may send me in 5 -10 days before they do anything - although if you are reading this and having the same problem I've now found out that they will fax the form to a branch of NatWest that you specify and you can sign and return it in the branch - took about 3 hours on the phone to them before this option was made available!
Asda Home Delivery - after several calls lasting a few hours - require you to send further proof of your bank account, your ID , and your bank account statement showing the disputed transaction (online / paperless statements are not acceptable) before they will consider doing anything further - yeah, like you've just taken money from my account without my authorisation so I'll send you some useful documents so you can do a proper job, like a mortgage in my name --- I think not.
The Police really do not want to know at all - even when told the circumstances - contact your bank and if in a couple of months they have not done anything then I can try reporting the theft again!
Nifty Nosh in Belfast was another fraudulent use of the card (about £30) - I did like them at least they were honest, small company and if NatWest ever get around to doing anything, it's them that are going to lose as well as me - Although why someone in Bedford, England would be ordering food for delivery to a residential address in Northern Ireland escapes me a little - they are going to implement some additional safeguards apparently.
<end rant>
But really why do none of the companies involved care or seem to be doing anything pro-active? I still have to wait at least a month for NatWest to return the money - if they choose to do so.... OK debit cards are going and I'll use credit cards only from now on - not sure that is what they want but it seems the safer option.0 -

This is rubbish. This is an extract from the FSA website
"If you’ve not authorised the payment from your current or instant-access savings account, then your bank or building society must immediately refund you the amount unless it has some evidence suggesting you may not be entitled to a refund because of the way you have acted.
In these cases it may investigate the claim, but it must do so as quickly as possible, within days rather than weeks"
(my highlighting).
My understanding is that the reporting of the transaction should trigger the refund.
This is the website if you want some more info, and this is the press release annoucing it on the FSA website.
When I had a similar problem with my Goldfish card, LLoyds cancelled it, and issued me with a new one straight away, and credited my account. Whilst they were invesigating they debited and credited my account each month, but the bottom line is that I got my money back straight away (funnily enough this was about 18 months ago, well before the new regulations). I wouldn't stand for any rubbish I would ask to speak to someone authorised to approve the refund.
A few years ago when I banked with abbey I had a problem with a direct debit. I telephoned and they said they would claim the money back and refund me when they received it. I said they could claim it back if they wanted, but I wanted my money from them straight away, she said she she couldn't do that, so I quoted the regulations on direct debits (which in fact have been in force since I worked in banking over 35 years ago, but are now managed by the FSA), lo and behold she went to speak to a supervisor and I got my money back.0 -
I'll try that with NatWest - but it won't be until Monday and I'll report how I get on.
If you or anyone can give me some regulations they have to comply with or what to say I'd appreciate it - I've been both aggressive and passive so far in dealing with them but the only compromise I've been offered, from their initial response, is to fax the form to sign to a local branch.0 -
OK Thanks for the advice,
Called NatWest again this morning - gave them the opportunity to sort it out today or I would be complaining to the FSA - Instant refund! (well about 20 mins). :T
They may try and take it back if the companies can prove the transactions were legitimate - but I really can't see how that is going to be possible.0
