ABS Broken following MOT

My car (9 year old Peugeot 306 HDI) went in for an MOT earlier this week and failed on a couple of minor things which will be getting repaired at the weekend. However, when I got the car back the ABS warning light was on and appears to have failed (judging by the clunking). I've had a fault with it in the past which was repaired 3 years ago.
Can anyone tell me whether I have to just put the timing of this fault down to coincidence (as the mechanic is insisting) or is there any possibility that something that occurred during the MOT could have been responsible for the failure?
I just don't expect my car to come back from a garage in a worse condition than I put it in! :mad:

Was the car serviced at the same time?
MOT testers are not allowed to take off the wheels during the MOT i believe so damaging the breaking system would be harder (if trying intentionally).I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

The MOT tester will apply the brakes hard although this should not affect the ABS. It Sounds like its bad timing or dirt has got in a sensor.0

No, the car wasn't serviced that day and I'm not sure what work was carried out other than a wheel changed for insufficient tread.
Seems like an expensive coincidence then! I'm just annoyed as I had to get a full exhaust system fitted at the weekend whch stung a bit.If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
take the wheel off and see if any crud has stuck to the sensor or sensor ring, this happened to me once0

I wish it were likely that it was just a sensor problem, but it's obvious that the ABS itself is at fault, ie. the car skids and there's a horrible clunking coming through the brake pedal.
It's all £££££s that I don't have though!If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
Scrappage time? Is it getting uneconomical to fix?
Nissan (well the one near my g/f in Goole) operate for cars as new as 8 years old if you are buying a british built car (Nissan being the uk's largest car producer).

If the lights on, in cars i've previously had, it disables the abs (so the car will skid).0 -
I had this problem when I brought my car last year.
I took hell of a big chnace buying a car with the ABS light on and traction light on, but it was too good a buy to miss out on, it was £1900 cheaper than any of the ones that were also for sale at the same time!!!
It turned out that the car tyre blew out, causing the ABS wire to snap and hence need to replace.
I had it done a few weeks ago, cost quite abit but after a test it didn't need a new wheel bearing on that side which was good news
When I brought the car the tyre that had blew out was given to me as it was on the Ford alloy, it was ripped to bits so had been driven after it blowing out.
I would recommend that you get a garage to take the wheels off and see if any of the wires are broken feeding the ABS sensor.

Mechanic was round last night to check some details so he could order the correct parts for the work (ball joint & track rod end) he's doing on Saturday. He noticed the ABS ring is broken - this is the same problem I had when I first got the car 3 years ago and ended up having to get a new drive shaft. :cool:
Although 9 years old the car has only done 47000 miles but suffered a bit from not being driven for a year or two before I got it. Replacing it is out of the question. However, as most of the mileage is from a 3 mile commute (along a well-served but expensive bus route) I might consider getting rid of it next year once I properly compare the cost of bus/train fares and the odd hire car. :TIf I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
