Carefree Scheme With Scottish Power

Hi , i just recently switched back to Scottish Power after finding the grass wasn,t so green with another company ,Scottish Hydro: their customer service was dreadful!
I joined their ,Scottish Power,s Carefree scheme which is for disabled customers and as well as receiving a free gas safety check each year , i was also told they now give Carefree customers a fuel allowance as well :T: last year it was £85 and the nice lady said that Scottish Power are hoping to increase the fuel allowance this year :T.Not sure if this has been covered but thought i,d mention it

Hi Mandy, Tipples wrote about it in Oct last year. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=14709911&postcount=543
Most if not all the energy suppliers have a service for vulnerable customers. No charge.
Can I ask what you are paying, i.e. the unit price including vat.
Ebico is 12.747, apparently an expensive tariff, and gas is 3.675. both inc.VAT and No Standing Charge.
  • Hi Ken ,thanks for letting me know and sorry for reposting. I was with Ebico which i didn,t actually know are Scottish Hydro too ? I left due to their high charges as well as very poor customer service : on one occassion i was kept waiting on an 0845 number to them for over 45 minutes! I also never received any offers/concessions etc from them.
I,ve switched back to S.P. and although i was also on their Carefree scheme before ,i didn,t receive a fuel allowance from them at that time but did get my free gas check :0). I,m not sure what their prices are but my recent electric bill shows -NSC Option Secondary -11.293 and NSC Option Primary 15.863 ( i don,t know what this means? )plus 5% vat is added: i pay my electric by DD at £25 a month which is now being reviewed by S.P. as my bill today was too high ,i.e. my reading was much less than their estimate. My gas is a pre-payment meter so i,m not sure what the charge rate for that is however the £10 i put in 2 and a half weeks ago is still lasting well which i,m pleased with :T-there,s still £5 left in my meter which is really good considering the amount of gas i,ve used in that time ,i.e. hot water ,etc .

I wasn,t sure what that means either as i don,t know if it,s the same as the fuel allowance that is being offered by Scottish Power ? The woman i spoke with today , told me that last year customers on the Carefree scheme were given an £85 fuel allowance which i thought meant the £85 was given to them in the form of payment? Are any other members on the Carefree scheme who may be able to confirm if they received such from Scottish Power as i don,t know when this offer started but when i was with them previously ,it was only the free gas check i received . I came across this ...
    Scottish Power - Carefree Plus

Scottish Power's Carefree Plus is a tariff which provides cheaper energy for certain customers. It was launched in April 2008 and offers a fixed yearly saving of up to £59.35 for electricity customers and £52.21 for gas customers paid as a monthly rebate over the next 12 months.
