The tax years cannot be changed and therefore no entitlement unless the info held for those tax years is in itself incorrect.

So when will they look at the next tax year? How come it varies for JSA and ESA?

Is dosnt exist anymore for single people, if you are looking for ways to defraud the system stick to the benefits that still exist.

Bit harsh there mealone, the OP is niaive when it comes to the benefits system and no iindications have been made that she is trying to defraud the system, now say sorry and make up.:o She is stressed enough bless her.

Employment and Support Allowance is the only benefit out there for 'new' sickness claims. Apart from the DLA I dont think there is anything else that can be claimed.

I take it your husband didn't pay his Class 2 National Insurance Contributions, which are compulsory for self-employed people, not voluntary?

For 2007/08 the rate was only £2.20 per week, which would have covered him if he could no longer work and had to claim benefit due to incapacity/illness.

As another poster said, it's important because these Class 2 Contributions also count towards the pension. You can ask for a Pension Forecast and it will show you which years you have a deficit in. It will also tell you how to add these years "in" by making Class 3 Voluntary Contributions - but these are much more expensive, ie, £7.80 per week for 2007/08.
    ;)
