Long Term UK Car Hire

I'm only in the UK for a year, and decided to do long term car hire rather than try to buy/sell a car. I was wondering if anyone knows of good long term car hire companies?

I'm currently using Apex Easy Fleet long term, they have a Vauxhall Corsa special at 199 pounds/month + insurance (costing me about 50pounds a month). This is for an automatic transmission, brand new cars, replacements every 3 months or sooner.

Does anyone know of a better deal than that? I would be willing to learn manual if I was saving a lot.

Bumping up this thread. Apex has now raised my rate a bit, so I'm hoping someone can help find a cheaper deal. They are now charging £249/28 days + VAT + insurance for the Vauxhall Corsa, and charging £299/28 days + VAT + insurance for the Vauxhall Astra.

This sounds high to me for this low-class of a vehicle. However, I've been unable to find a better deal around.

I actually think you woul have been better off buying a used car. At £200/month, thats almost £2500 over the whole year. For that, you can buy a decent used small car. At the end, even if you sell it for £500, you are quids in .... the reality is that you would probably get around £2000 for it, so for a whole year, the car would only cost £500.

Thanks for the reply. I definitely agree with you. However, I'm in an awkward situation where I could be called home any week. So, I'm hesitant to get into a purchase situation without knowing for sure how long I'm here. Plus, as I may only have a few weeks to leave, it would be difficult to sell the car that quickly.

Can sell quick on ebay. I recently started a 6 month contract which I needed a car for, was going to rent as contract could be cancelled but after a week decided buying would be much cheaper (especially for insurance), got a 4 yr old Fiat stilo with 40k on ebay for 2000, am paying next to nothing for insurance after quidco cashback and so far have done 8000 miles and only paid for 2 tyres and 6 months tax. Will soon get 100 quid service so afer 6 months I am still better off than renting even if the car had to be sold for zero (and I have had my contract extended for another 6 months so even more profit)
    I think....

I've only tried them through using sites like Expedia. I'm in Wiltshire, near Bath.

I was going to suggest a a short term lease but that won't work if you might have to leave suddenly.

A cheapy is probably the best route but I can understand with the hassle involved at the end of the day.

For convenience etc you are probably on not a bad deal but have a look at this for an example:-

have you tried easidrive or big apple, which are really big in manchester, I think they special in more long term hire. Tel for easidrive is 08006121034

But reckon buying would be best bet, but there are also tax, mot, tyres, brakes etc to think about
