Hi
daughter just got a new MP3. Put in CD and copied them to MP3. On PC screen it shows the files as there ON THE MP3 but when MP3 disconnected from PC it reads "no files".
Can anyone suggest why that should be? I am wondering if the CD files need to be copied to media player before copying to MP3??
Daughter thinks its the PC that's at fault but I don't see how that could be as everything else works. However I should add that we always have problems when trying to copy music - we could not get a previous MP3 to work nor could we download to it or to her phone MP3. Is it US or IT?
Please help we are very stressed here......

It may be that you have copied the CD content over to the mp3 player in a formatt hat it doesn't recognise. Try converting the CD into mp3 files and save on your pc and then copy them over to the player.

As previous correspondent wrote, did you make sure that you encoded the CD tracks to MP3 before you copied them to the mp3 player? This is very important - just ripping the tracks from the CD and copying them straight to the player will probably not work.

Did you get any CD->MP3 conversion software with your mp3 player? If not you might need to get hold of some off t'interweb.

no, she definitely didn't do that. So how do I do it? Can you do it with media player? I just tried synchronising a track but that didn't work either.
I'm so ashamed that I don't know! I thought Media player just performed these tricks for you!

  • In Windows Media Player 10, go to Tools/Options/Rip music.

Change the format in the drop down menu to mp3.

You can move the slider to increase/decrease the audio quality. The higher the quality, the better the songs will sound, but the less songs you'll get on the player. Try ripping at different quality levels to see what you're happy with. Obviously the lower the quality you're willing to accept, the more songs you'll get onto the player.

Once you ripped the songs, you should be able to drag and drop/copy and paste your ripped songs on to the player using either WMP or Windows explorer.

That's good news. don't forget to delete the files you have already copied over to the mp3 player as otherwise you may find you won't get much more on there.
