By putting him down each time maybe it's getting him attention, even bad attention is attention! Have you tried simply putting him into another room? Could you feed him his food when you have yours so that he's occupied with his?

As for the toileting, does he have a tray away from his food & water? Is the litter the same as his previous homes? Do you clean it up with biological washing powder? (Stops the smell, if they can smell it they generally will keep going there!)

You don't mention if you tell him off when you discover his mess, but please don't (If you do) it does more harm than good.

Our cat when she was a kitten peed in my husbands suitcase (which still had clothes in it) that he hadn't bothered putting away after a business trip : ) Made me laugh and taught him a lesson!!!! Kitten probably thought it was a giant litter tray!
Just persevere with kitten, it will learn eventually......

My kitten is 12 weeks onl and when i'm loading the dishwasher she likes to climb up on to the rack and lick the knives and forks. I think she had a shock when she tried it with curry!

Also she is quite fierce. Doesn't go any further than the garden as she has not been spayed yet but she can be quite vicious when she's playing. She'll be purring and happy but have the claws and teeth out! how do i stop that?

    Lol @ the curry!

As for the playing, I'd suggest stop playing with her as soon as she does that and out her down, hopefully she'll get the message eventually.

She is not a happy kitty as i gave her a bath about half an hour ago! so i'm in her bad book at the moment :p

Got some scratches then but i'll let her off as she really does hate water. It's her own fault, she gets all sticky in the dishwasher! :rotfl:

My cat generally is beautifully behaved (unless she wants to sit somewhere in which case she is going to damned well sit there whether humans are there or not) but she does have a tendency to want to piddle on clutter left on the floor - mainly piles of clothes.
I don't know why she does it, she does it when the litter tray's freshly done, she does it when it's slightly less fresh - it's just her "thing" I guess. We've just avoided leaving clothes on the floor (well I guess it encourages me to tidy up) and since we moved, the lounge door tends to swing shut so she can't get up to the bedrooms during the day anyway (you have to carry her downstairs out of the bedroom on a morning - it's like ferrying some ancient queen about or something).
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!

I've got Hex, my big cat who's lovely, VERY laid back and chilled, and I have Fudge, who's just turned 1 and was hand raised from..about 5 weeks.

Both know the "no pestering while eating rule", but it took a bit of learning to get across. Litter trays on the whole are great, but I've changed litter and big cat is OCCASIONALLY going on the vinyl floor. Fudge couldn't care less. It's all perseverance, I'm afraid.

When we first moved, they both decided the bath was the litter tray for 2 weeks..

Now every time fudge needs to go but there is something stopping him(state of tray, odd noises etc) he mews constantly and gives the donated rug outside the door a good knitting so that we can go and assist. Never had them go in any other room apart from the "designated" loo room, even if they're absolutely bursting. They just hang on.

As said, hissing seems to work..spray water bottle too. That usually puts a stop to any naughtiness..although me coming out of the bedroom at any time pre 8am does it too..they can play the innocent SO well. Except for this morning when I walked out of the bedroom and found fudgie at head height scaling the curtain at the top of the stairs..they're allowed to do it to that one though.;)

Once we've eaten, they're allowed to come and inspect..they'll eat lettuce, mashed spud, pizza crust, burnt chips...you name it. Fudge has the most amusing way of doing it...he reaches for the target and "hooks" it off the table, then has it on the floor..like this..:rotfl:
