I have Wanadoo Broadband and have recently received an e-mail informing me that my account has had an automatic upgrade to my broadband speed from 1meg to 5.5meg. However the speed of my connection seems to change constantly throughout the day - i.e. I currently have a speed of 4.6meg. My speed can be as high as the 5.5meg I was promised, or as low as 2meg. One of the biggest problems with this, is that when the speed changes, I lose my connection and have to reconnect at the different speed. Normally I can reconnect straight away, but sometimes it can take a couple of minutes before I can regain a connection. I phoned the Wanadoo helpline who advised me to disconnect my modem and then reboot - none of which helped. Any got any suggestions for a cure?

Is your modem actually losing sync or are you just getting disconnected?
If you're losing sync since the upgrade and nothing else has changed then it could be that your line isn't capable of the higher speed they've given you.Dave. :wave:0 -
Apparently there is an issue about the line syncing with the upgrades and the speed can vary for around three days. There is some information about this at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

When a service is offered its quoted as a speed. This isn't the speed you are guaranteed, its a maximum speed you could get if everything was perfect. Nothing is perfect, and when it comes to old copper BT lines and there age things are far from perfect.
If you get a 10MB line, you may well not get near 10MB unless your using it at 4am.
The disconnections shouldnt be happening though, sounds to me like either:-
a) Wanadoo are still upgrading and experiencing issues until they are finished.
b) Your line simply can't handle 5MB.0 -
the first 10 days or so, the ISP run speed tests on your line to see what your stable maximum speed can be. these tests cause the interuption on your internet connection. after the tests are complete, the ISP sets your line speed to what they think is stable (wont have any problems).
once the tests are complete, your maximum speed is set and you shouldnt get any problems with your connection therafter0 -
I had the same problem when I first got BB
I was leaving my computer connected thinking that it was OK as BB was an "always on" service
I was constantly getting disconnected and my service provider told me the modem was not "up to " being left on all the time and I should disconnect when not using it.
This solved all the problems, Good Luck!0
