BT Security Deposit prior to order acceptance

Hi all,
I've just placed an order for Phone line, Broadband and TV at BT.COM at no time during the order phase did it mention any sort of deposit in order to confirm my identity.
Yet I received a call last night saying that I need to pay a £25 deposit to confirm my identity before they would even process the order, they have mentioned that I'll get this back in my first bill but was a little shocked to get it out of the blue. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
Thanks,
Phil

It's quite normal for them to ask for a deposit if you have any adverse credit.
If you are going for the full broadband, TV package you would have been credit checked, and I think depending on your credit scoring, differing levels of deposit may be asked for.
As far as I know though, this is not normally returned until after 3 or 6 months, therefore the fact they have mentioned the first bill might mean this is something totally different (unless you are going to pay quarterly, then it might make some sense)0 -
Many thanks for that Rosey, although, it does seem a bit off that at no point during the ordering stage that it was never mentioned!
oh well, I guess I'll have to wait til payday!0 -

I don't have any asverse credit and I had to give BT a £50 deposit that would be refunded 12 months later. Seems they just randomly ask for this deposit.0 -
I had to give Kcom £100 so I wouldn't complain too much, the reason:
- "you've no credit history at that address"
- "no !!!! sherlock I've just moved in..."0
