Barclycard 0% problem

I applied just when Martin said to in order to get the good deal. I recieved a letter from them yesterday (though they dated it 05 April 06) saying that they can't give me the deal that I applied for but can give me an "Initial Barclaycard Barclaycard with a purchase APR of 24.9% (variable). That isn't the problem, the problem is that they want to charge 2.5% balance transfer fee. How can I persuade them to give me the card without the transfer fee? Perhaps I could ring them and see if they could wave an charge for an initial transfer then have a higher one for "future" transfers (or a higher APR for after the 10 months).
Any help would be appreciated.

I think you'll find them unresponsive to any attempts to lower a balance transfer fee. The fact that previously fee free cards are now charging would tend to support this.
Nothing stopping you from ringing them up and trying though; the person you get through to may have the authority to waive the charge...Conjugating the verb 'to be":

The O% deal is still being offered - see the https://www.0for10.co.uk website
Maybe your circumstances did not fit that deal. Hopefully this is not a blanket policy as I applied via that website on Monday, carefully printing all the screens as evidence of the 0% deal and no bal transfer fee.0 -
Hmm - from Tim's link I found http://www.0for10.co.uk/Products/Apply/summary_box/barclays_platinum.html
It may be worth pointing that out when you ring up Western.Barclays wrote:0% for 10 months from account opening, for balance transfers made within 60 days of account opening up to £5,000, subject to credit limit.

Ah, but further down, under the charges section it says:
Charges
Cash, balance transfers and cheques: 2.5% (min. £2.50)
Overseas transactions: 2.75%
Copies of statements: £3.00
Copies of transactions: £5.00

There charges, different thing to fees.
I would tell them that you applied for the 0% card with no balance transfer fee and the standard barclays card is not good enough. Tell them that you would have to decline the card offer if the 0% with no Balance Transfer Fee was offered.
Personally, you would be better off declining them.0 -
I applied successfully last week https://www.0for10.co.uk
Got my card yesterday. Clearly says on the paperwork no fee for transfers made in first 60 days.
Just a shame its not 15k of credit like I used to have on EGG

Update. I spoke to someone today on the phone. On the letter they sent me and on the Terms and Conditions it says "with no handling fee" referring to the 60 days. Unfortuantly she didn't have the terms and conditions of the new card they were offering. This meant that she couldn't give me a comprehensive answer. She suggested that I applied for the higher rate card anyway and when I recieved it to check again that I am right and that I won't be charged. I may well do this as other people on here seem to have been ok.
Edit, I sent off my application because as far as I can see it's the same terms as everyone else here is getting but at a higher month 11 APR. I have written on my form that I only wanted the card if there was to be no charges on my initial balance transfer and that the amount that the no fee on was the same as the balance transfer amount.0
