Assuming your washing machine has a hot feed, you'll be using the water heated overnight to run the washing machine anyway. The larger part of the running cost is heating the water, not powering the machine. No free lunch, and no free laptop

best thing is to get rid of the e7 if you have gas central heating, the in laws have just done this and have basically halved there annual consumption.
they had to pay £50 ish to have the electric meter changed, from e7 to a standard single rate meter.0 -
I presume this depends on the supplier as I don't pay any more for my day time electricty.
I have my washing machine and dishwasher on timers and if I intend to use the my tumble dryer then I just make sure I use it before 8am.
My son has Economy 7 at his flat and sets his immersion heater to come on between 4-7am.
It does save a bit of money and as we all know, every little helps:D
Please can you tell me who the supplier is as my daytime electric is much dearer than normal daytime tariffs? Ta0 -
hi just to to re up this thread as i now can compare to recent bills although i'm none the wiser.....
first bill had readings.. 6261 night rate, 32566 day rate
latest bill has 6158 night rate, 32179 day rate, so im £12.74 in credit over the £140.00 i pay a month for gas and electric.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
How many days is that for? If it is a quarter, it's not bad at all.
You say you have gas, can the boiler heat the hot water? If it can, you would be better getting rid of economy 7 and using gas.0 -

its for just under a month 10th july first bill, then this bill was the 5h august. The boiler at the moment is heating the to water thank i have it set to come on just before it swtiches over to the higer rate.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
If the gas can heat it, why even bother with the electric. I would switch the immersion heaters off and just use the gas. Try it for a week and read the electricity and gas meters. I would think that it will be cheaper to use gas for heating the water and go on a standard tariff for your electricity. Read the meters every weekend, you will be able to see the effect of any changes and you won't get a massive unexpected bill.0
