My front coil spring snapped recently.

That was rubbing on the tyre. I noticed a burning smell and thought "soon as I get past this roundabout I will pull over"

As soon as I pulled onto the roundabout, BANG, front tyre ripped to shreds and I'm fighting with the steering to guide the car to safety.

Coil spring had unwound itself burying itself deep into the tyre.

Have a feel around the back of the tyre, my guess is the same thing. The Coil spring snapped when you hit the pot hole and has unwound itself touching the tyre.

    Yeh thats it i think.
I had a coil spring break years ago and it was ok, this seems to have damaged the 1 side of th suspension at th front and it looks like it lowered.
How much did you pay for repair? Did you claim?
    Thankls

Tyler Boyo, I'd just be thankful it was only a pothole you didn't see.

Could've been far more serious.

It just got home, i had no other choice.

    AA/ RAC ??

    Local garage with breakdown truck?

It would have saved a lot of the damage to the vehicle, apart from the fact that the vehicle wasn't roadworthy after the incident.

Mine wasn't a pothole, it just broke!!

MY car was a Saab, who have recognised the frequency of these springs breaking to such an extent, they have agreed to cover the replacement costs for cars of all ages and mileage.

Obviously I didn't realise that until after I had got mine repaired myself. Saab turned down my request as I hadn't spoken to them before getting it repaired.

I must admint I was royally fleeced but I needed the car but couldn't move it from the garage I had it towed to by the AA.

I paid £140 for each front spring and another £110 for the new tyre. So about £400 all in.

You can get it much cheaper, but you need to ring round and obviously get the car there somehow.

Some of the roads near me are in a bad state , covered in yellow line marking paint so ready for repair some time soon , I did complain about one particular pothole as it was so wide it was difficult to avoid it without going on the other side of the road , fair play to the highways dept. they had it fixed the next day.
does this also include speedbumps? nasty things especially if you have a low car

I think they're great , the number of chavs driving through our street has dropped quite a lot since the speed bumps were fitted.

P.s. I'm not trying to say your a chav just because you have a low car just around here the majority of cars with body kits are driven by chavs.
